Name changing - do I need to become a resident for new driver's license?

I don't normally frequent this board as we're getting married in Michigan, but I live in Boston and this seems like the best place to pose my question.

I moved to Boston about 7 months ago and we're planning on living here indefinitely. I'm from Illinois originally so I still have my IL driver's license and residency there. When I change my name after the wedding, I figure I'll just get my new driver's liscence here in Mass, since we'll be living here from now on, so why not (plus it's WAY more convenient to renew it here). But I assume I need to become a resident of Mass. before I can get my liscense here, correct? I've done a bit of searching online, but most of the state websites don't get as specific as this, haha.

I'm just trying to figure all this out so I know when/if I need to apply for residency so that I can take care of everything else. Thanks!
