Bridal Salon vs. Purchasing Direct

Hi everyone. This is my first post and would love some advice. I have the opportunity to purchase my dress directly from the designer, which I am sure will save me money. However, I am a little concerned about then having to find a seamstress who will be ultimately responsible for the dress. Whereas, if I purchase my dress in a bridal salon, they are then completely responsible for the dress and all alterations. Is it worth saving the extra $$ and if so, does anyone know a good seamstress they used for their wedding dress?

Thanks,
Erica

I bought my dress at a sample sale and I am using Nilah, who is raved about here.  1104 Ormond Avenue
    Drexel Hill, PA
    (610) 853-9822

You can also go through Pearl's Place, Net Bride, and JK bridal to get dresses at a discounted rate.  All of these places have brick and motor stores, but sell you dresses online at discounted prices because you are not using their sales person's time.

Additionally www.bridepower.com/" target="_blank">Bride Power  in MA carries samples and will email or call you if they have the dress you are looking for come in.

    Good luck!

I bought mine and had a separate seamstress alter it.. Honestly, most bridal salons charge way too much for alterations, so you're actually better off finding your own seamstress.  Where do you live?

Thanks so much. I live here in Philadelphia. Do the seamstresses hold accountability if anything were to go wrong with the alterations? I know dry cleaners and some places aren't accountable for mistakes so am just curious.

Hello, and welcome to the Philly Board-- Congrats on your engagement!

We have a "blog" of sorts if you'd like to check it out.  If you click on "Knottie Vendor List" there is a list of all the vendors that present and past knotties have used, and Alterations is at the top.

Nilah comes highly reccommended, but there are other choices as well!  Hope that helps!
