forgot postage on response card envelopes...ugh

Okayyy, I felt so pumped today when I finished addressing my last set of invitations, then I had a pretty sizeable collection of stamps left over when I knew I had ordered just enough....I realized I forgot to put stamps on the response card envelopes. Every last one is sealed so do y'all know of a way I can open the outer envelopes without tearing them so that I can add the stamps and then tape them closed (using double sided tape on the inside)? Ugh, I feel like such an idiot....and I really don't want to have to buy all new envelopes, all new stamps, and start all over. help please :( thanks

Re: forgot postage on response card envelopes...ugh

  • Maybe try steaming them open? I would boil a pot of water and hold the envelopes over the steam to see if it will moisten the seal enough to peel the flap up. Or maybe try the steam from a humidifier if the pot of water isn't strong enough.

  • I read on pinterest (if it's on pinterest, it must be true, right?) that you can pop the envelopes in the freezer for an hour and they should pop open.  I would guess that they will still be sticky when finished, but if not you can seal with clear glue.
  • I would not steam them....you may ruin the invitation.  I'd try the freezer, and if that doesn't work you could explain to those affected what happened? (How many invitations was it?).  If someone is so unreasonable that they really would get that mad over having to fork out 42 cents you don't need them at your wedding anyway! :)  You could always mail them a stamp as well (though I know, right?  you'd have to pay for a stamp to mail them a stamp!).  Hopefully the freezer works!  Good luck!
  • I would probably just mail them as is, but you may have to follow up with people to get their RSVPs.  People are just lazy, so if they need to find a stamp, they may not send it on time.
  • Maybe you can just buy new outer envelopes.
  • The problem with new outer envelopes is that 1. they cost money, 2. I already put the stamps on them (and that costs money), 3. I reallyyy don't want to re-write 150 invitations :(  The invitations are in the freezer right now, I'll let y'all kno how it goes.

    Did it work?
  • No, it didn't.  I tried steaming them open and that worked better but they kinda look cruddy after I re-glued them.  I'm bummed but it's ok, people will throw away the envelope once they open the invitation.  There are bigger things to be worried about.
  • Dang it on the Freezer Fail. I bet if they were self adhesive it may work better.  But then again, up north the mail gets frozen in the winter, and the USPS would have made some sort of request if they came open too easy.
