Getting Rid of Acrylic Nails

I know this is probably going to sound tacky…but I am ready to rip these acrylic nails off!

I’m not a nails person (I usually keep my nails short) and this is torture.  Every time I type I hear tappidy-tap-tap…;)

I was hoping they would get lose after a week so I could start “helping” them come off.  Its been two weeks and they aren't going anywhere.  I can’t soak them because my skin is too sensitive.

Any suggestions?

Re: Getting Rid of Acrylic Nails

  • I don't have any suggestions because my nails only last two days...but I LOVE your siggy photo!
  • Only way I know of getting them off is going to the nail place and they will take them off. But that is SOOOOOO painful. At least to me it is. Or you can just tough it out and keep them on and eventually they will start to get brittle and, not that I recommend this, you can just start biting them off..

  • There's two ways to get rid of them

    A) put the nail in between your teeth - sideways - and bite down. This will crack the acrylic nail down the center and you can then proceed to peel each half off. Kinda painful and destoys your nail.

    B) go back to the salon, where they can take their rotating nail file and file the surface down to where your natural nail should be. Do this instead. Depending on the place, should cost around $5.
  • I currently have about half mine still on. When they start getting loose I push on them to try to lift them off my nail. I also used nail clippers to cut them and then this helped loosen them more. It is painful though. Which is why I havent gotten them all off yet!

    Thanks ladies!

I hadn’t thought about filing them down/off before.  I bet I can get them down to where they will be tolerable…and then I can deal with them until they get lose.

Thanks vineyard12. ;)  After our ceremony when the Rev was about to announce us he said, "Before God and all of these witnesses...even the people overlooking the balconies..."  Everyone laughed.  We looked up and there were dozens of people watching the cermony from their hotel balcony.

  • Oh my gosh.  I feel for you.  My sister and I did acrylic nails for her wedding a few years ago.  We wanted to make sure our nails were pretty for her wedding...BIG mistake.  It took us forever to try and get them off.  She is a PT and had to have hers off.  We soaked and soaked our poor little fingers in acid for hours and our nails took a big beating for it.  It was a big joke with us for my wedding a couple of weeks ago about doing those stupid nails.  No thank you.... I went all natural!

    LOVE the picture

  • I would go to a nailplace because if you try to do it yourself you may damage your nails.

  • Mine actually started popping off on my honeymoon cuz I was in chlorine and/or salt water every single day.  I had the medium pink acrylic and it was all white and lifting by the end - they came off REALLY easy.  I went to get a fill this past Tuesday cuz I decided to keep them and the guy was like ummmm no, I'm taking the rest of these off, they're gross haha!  If you're going on a HM just hang out in the water a lot.

Otherwise.....I've had acrylics on an off for years and the only way to really get them off without completely destroying your nails is to soak them in acetone.  If you can't soak your fingers in a bowl, maybe try how they do it with gels and saturate some cotton balls, put one on each finger, then wrap you finger tips with the soaked cotton on them in aluminum foil.  This should at least get them soft and you can start to try to lift the edges and get under them with something thin...also, once they're that soft you can start to buff them down if you can't get under them.

I can't stand the acrylics either. I can't function with them on! I mean I literally have a problem buttoning my pants! LOL

I decided I only wanted to have the french tips for one day... got the at home glue on kind. Looked great and I didn't break or pop one off until the day after the wedding. Finally by Sunday night they had driven me crazy enough I popped them all off. LOL
