Accommodation: Which One??

Hi!

We've decided to rent a big house from VRBO and get married at the North Shore in Oahu.  We'll be staying there with 8 family members (10 of us total) for a week.  We're down to choosing between 2 houses and has been going back and forth with the advantages of each one.  Would you pick a more expensive house right on the beach (4 bd for $500/nt) or less expensive but bigger not on the beach  (6 bd-$450/nt)???  Dilemma, dilemma!  Location or more room?

We always go for beachfront - hearing the surf crash is a mandatory part of the experience for us.

    P.S.

The bigger house is across the street in one of those cul-de-sacs about 600 meters from the beach.

Are there any kids? 4 bedrooms for 5 couples doesn't sound like quite enough. I need my privacy and would want to ensure a bedroom for DH and I! But if 4 rooms is enough, then go for the waterfront!

$50 more for Right on the beach sounds awesome! We too are renting a house for 10 of us in oahu for $500/nt but werent lucky enough to do beachfront.

To tell you the truth, I'd look at the quality and comfort of the accommodation between the two choices.  Is one newly renovated with modern amenities?  In our case, my parents rented a beautiful condo that wasn't oceanfront, but was newly renovated and brand spankin' new - it beat all the other guests' condos (some were oceanfront and higher priced) hands down!  Especially for a long-term stay, it makes a huge difference.

Also, what are the bedding configurations like?  Will the smaller one require some folks to sleep on a sofa bed?  How many bathrooms are there?  I agree with Tanq that a group your size might appreciate more room and space.  Will you be doing lots of cooking?  Does one have a better kitchen, appliances, and better equipped than the other?

The bigger one sounds like better value.  But again, I'd look at the quality and comfort of the house.

Thanks ladies for the advice!  It turns out, the beachfront house will cost us about $1300 more to rent although pretty much everyone I've asked said since it's our wedding wee, we should just go for it.
