Photographer - How do you choose?

There are so many great photographers! I've looked at photos/pricing for all of these. All of them are fairly close to the same price point and have similar styles. I love them all. How do you pick??

Mustard Seed
Paper Dolls
Alyse French
Brittany Dawson (from Austin)

Has anyone used any of these and have any feedback? Or can you let me know how you decided on a photographer? Such an important decision...I don't want to mess it up but I definitely need to pick soon! Help!

Re: Photographer - How do you choose?

  • Each photographer has their own style and own character. I would pick the photographer who's style you like the most and who you think you will get along with and be more at ease with the most.
That being said, those are all great photographers! My favorite out of those would be Brittany Dawson. So, I would pick her out of those! :)

here's a few more incase you haven't looked into them yet who I also realllllly  love. they all have great photography and they are all great

Are you stealing this from my favorites list??? LOL

I follow all of them and picking them would make me crazy!  Since they're all so fabulous, i think it comes down to more about who you mesh better with. Set up a phone call or meeting and just see who you click with. That's very important!

  • like previously stated. Each photographer has their own "touch". What I did was take 1 picture of each (they usually have some sort of sample card or something)... I thought about what I pictured my day to be like, and how I would want to remember it.... I wanted something timeless where I could recall every candid shot.

Then I looked down at the samples, and made a choice. I "stalked" their blogs/sites for weeks before making a choice.
  • Oh yes, I am a MAJOR blog stalker. That's part of the problem I think. I love photography so much and I think it is such an important part of the day. I like them all for various reasons and now I can't decide! Thanks for the input ladies.

  • I guess we are all blog stalkers....LOL.

Can you give me an idea how much cost-wise a photographer for the wedding would be?
  • Oh wow they vary soooo much. I'm looking to spend $2,500 - $3,000 and I'm not getting any prints, only a DVD or USB with the high-res, edited images. Some include engagement sessions for that price but most do not. I don't really feel the need for those, so it's not a huge deal for me. All of the ones I listed are right around that price range for those options. You could easily go up to $10,000 (or more!) for photographs so it really depends on what your budget looks like. The most affordable for the style I like (photojournalism) has been about $2400 but you can go for less if you like a different style or if you have a smaller budget or if you just don't want to use a huge chunk of your budget for pictures. I'm sure that lots of people have spent less for beautiful pictures, I just haven't been so lucky to find that!

Most photographers do list their starting package pricing on the websites or blogs under "investment."

I've done a LOT of photogrpahy "shopping" so let me know if you want suggestions but knowing your budget will make recomendations easier. HTH!
