Chevy Chase vs Old Orchard

I need some help ladies we went to see Old Orchard Country club in Mt. Prospect IL last week I really liked the place I could totally picture our wedding at this location on top of that they onyl have one reception a day and the prices are within our budget the only thing we weren't so sure about is the ceremony area which is right infront I saw some pictures and it looked really nice and a plus is they don't charge a ceremony fee only $2-3 for each chair rental which is not bad. We are going to see Chevy Chase Country club in Wheeling on Sat just by looking at the menu I can see that the plates are more expensive which means they will most likely be more expensive I am not sure if it is even worth us going to see it what if I like it and it's too much??? If any of you ladies had your reception at either place I would appreciate some reviews, or if anyone went to go see Chevy Chase and has some feedback please share!!!! We have June 2013 picked out just need to narrow in on a day which will be a Friday.

Thanks

We booked our September wedding reception at Old Orchard. Our ceremony will be at a nearby church. So far, everything has been great. We booked it last year May and Lisa (coordinator) has been very responsive and helpful throughout. We had our food tasting last week and the food was delicious! We're going with a chicken entree. Our parents joined us for the tasting and they were all very impressed with the food and presentation, which was important for us.

As you mentioned, Old Orchard only has 1 wedding per day. This was a huge plus for us. The fact that we could also use the golf course (and golf carts) for pictures was also a plus. Their per person price definitely beat any other country clubs and banquet halls in the area. And that price included the open bar already!

We also wanted to check out Chevy Chase, but didn't bother looking at the venue after we found out that their biggest room that we needed was already booked for the day. I would just check it out anyway to compare differences.

Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, just let me know. Good luck! :)

  • Hi! We booked Chevy Chase for our August 2013 wedding. I absolutely fell in love with their Grand Ballroom. I have pictures of it, if you would like me to send you some. Their prices are a little higher, but Jan and Wendy have been very accomodating with helping us out. They won't lower the price per plate, but they can throw some things in for you. For example, they are giving us free appetizers for cocktail hour, which saves us about $500.

Chevy Chase can potentially have 2 weddings per night. However, the rooms are completely seperated and the entrances are completely seperated as well. I feel like it won't be a big deal if there is another wedding that day. They also have a huge parking lot so I don't think parking would be a problem either.

Chevy Chase also has a golf course and will give us our own golf carts to go out on the course to take pictures. They are also renovating the huge bar, bridal suite, and are planning to add a deck on the outside of the Grand Ballroom. The room is huge too!

I have had heard nothing but great things about CC! Old Orchard was on our list of places to check out but as soon as we saw Chevy Chase we decided that was the place for us! As you can probably tell, I am really excited about it :)
  • lauren,

If you don't mind me asking how many people are you guys having? We only have 75 so we woulnd't use the granball room I believe we would use the devonshire west room. Would you mind telling me around how much they are going to cost you? You don't have to give me an exact number but maybe an estimate.
  • chiboo,

How many people are you guys having? Were you guys able to get any discounts or any freebies at all?

<div>We're having 175 guests. Butler passed hors d'oeuvres are complimentary for cocktail hour if you have 175 or more guests. That was a major plus. Color napkins are included in their package. It's really as all-inclusive as you can get. They're allowing me to bring my own sweets for a sweet table without any additional fees, as long as they're served buffet style. They'll set up a table for me as long as I let them know ahead of time. Not really sure how that works with other places, but I thought that was convenient. Oh, they threw in the pillar lighting at no additional costs. Lisa told me that was usually a $250 cost.  We didn't feel the need for much add-ons since we felt everything we needed was already included, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to ask what can be thrown in for free.</div>

  • Honestly, the Devonshire Room wasn't anything to write home about. My fiance actually said that if that room was the only room they had he would have walked out. It was just outdated and seemed a little cramped. It did have an outdoor room and private entrance with fireplace, but other than that it didn't stand out to me.

It sounds like you are getting a fantastic deal at Old Orchard! If you want to check out another place nearby for comparisons, look at The Arborteum Club in Buffalo Grove. That was the first place we checked out and the manager, Chris, was VERY accommodating. They had a huge outdoor patio and she was willing to pretty much throw in anything you needed.

Keep us updated with your decision! :)
  • Oh I forgot to add that we are having 175 people. I believe it will be costing between $11,000-12,500. Not the cheapest place, but I am in love with the ballroom :)
  • I have hosted multiple events at Chevy Chase and Wendy and Jan are SO accommodating! The Chef Walt is also amazing - he really cares about making sure everything looks perfect and beautiful. They have great attention to detail, really care about getting to know their customers and making sure they have a great time. Have always had a wonderful experience with them!
  • Thanks girls for all your input after crunching some numbers we decide Chevy Chase was going to be out of our budget so we didn't go see it, we had a pre tasting at Old Orchard and Kristin was great we put a two week hold on the venue and it looks like that one is a keeper!
  • Also, I went to look at the Devonshire room at CC and was told you can't take pictures on the golf course, only near the outside near the room. I am sure it is due to those using the Grand Ballroom. If you know you won't use the Grand Ballroom, you might want to know that fact. It totally turned me off to having my wedding there. Why have a wedding at a golf course if you aren't allowed to use it for pics?!

I personally liked Chevy Chase better than Old Orchard on the outside. I thought it was way prettier on the outside, however, I did end up choosing a different venue than both of those in the end. chevy Chase looked dated on the inside, but Orld Orchard just looked a little too chaotic for my liking
