Nephew's first Halloween costume (when he was 6mos old) was a ladybug. he picked it our himself (he was really into red as an infant). SIL bought it and brought it home. SIL's H THREW A FIT because apparently all ladybugs are female, and this would make his son gay. 

i can't imagine the reaction if SIL painted nephew's toenails - her H would probably fall over dead. 

*ETA: I am fully aware that there are male ladybugs, and they don't reproduce in a massive lesbian orgy.

    DD was a kangaroo last Halloween, and MIL "didn't think it was very girly."  Hint, MIL:  the boy kangaroos don't have pouches.  See also, Kanga and Roo from Winnie the Pooh.

    I think the kangaroo costumes are so cute. Unfortunately I think it's still way to warm here around Halloween for one of those furry costumes.

    Wolverine is going to be a pirate for Halloween next year (no matter what gender). I will be sending MIL a framed 8x10' afterwards. DK supports this 100%.

    I saying a kangaroo wasn't girly enough was just her way of saying that there wasn't enough tulle and ribbons involved.  I bet she would have loved a kangaroo ballerina.

    Boys can be ladybugs, but I'm sorry...there is no way a 6 month old actually picked this out. How exactly did he do that?  She took him to the store and saw which one he didn't spit up on?

    she asked him what he wanted and he grabbed the red one. he would do the exact some thing with toys. (if you set 2 blocks in front of him at the same distance, one red, one blue/yellow/green/etc., he would 95% of the time grab the red one) kid had no idea what it was, just that it was red.

    This reminds me of the "Twy sentwa" story from the bump. There's no way a 6 months old knows what "pick out the halloween costume you want" means.
