non-denominational church for ceremony

Hi everyone!  I don't post often (just a few times)..but I'm around a lot.  A bit about me...we're getting married on October 1, 2011.  Our reception is at The Cathedral Room at St. Nicks.. and we're looking at about 150 people.  The majority of our guests are in-towners, but they're spread from Robinson to Freeport.  Up until now.. we planned on a backyard ceremony before the reception.  Mostly to save money (plus I love the idea of the outdoor ceremony, but I dont love the idea of rain).. but I continue to stress out about this decision.. and I have a new found obsession with the beauty of churches.  I've sent a few requests for availabilty - I know it's a long shot at this point .. to a few churches in the area. (sent to Calvary Methodist - no idea how much this one costs, and to First Unitarian)  If anyone has any other recommendations.. preferably not too far from Oakland.. I would really appreciate suggestions!

Thanks for all of your help.. and I'd love to start posting more often -- just never knew when to jump in!

Girl, jump in whenever you have an opinion! :-)

If you or FI went to college around here, a good route to explore is your old college campus. Sometimes they have beautiful locations for ceremonies.

The First Baptist Church of Pgh allows non-members to marry and you're also able to bring in your own officiant.  Fees are $600 for the church and $175 for their organist (required) if you plan on using the pipe organ.  There is also an additional $200 deposit that does not count towards the $600 but will be refunded.  Times for ceremonies are 10:30, 2:30 and 5:30 so maybe there is a slot available on your day if you're interested.  HTH and welcome to the board!

Welcome to the boards! Don't be shy about posting- we like people :-)

Smithfield United Church of Christ downtown is where we are having our ceremony at (we are members there too though). They allow non-members to get married there and are really really nice to work with. The rental fee for non members is high though.... A little over a grand for everything (but that includes the officiant fee, cleanup fee, etc). The rental fee itself is about $500 to $600. Might be a lil over budget but it is a beautiful church and they might have some availabillity. They also allow outside officiants, which might cut down on your overall fee if the officiant you want doesn't charge a set fee.
