Newbie...vendors

Hey all!
Sooo, I've been checking out the boards every now and then over the past couple months and finally decided to jump in.  We're getting married in May at Belhurst Castle in Geneva.  The thing is, I live in AZ (grew up in Spencerport), so a lot of the planning is being done online.  The only things we don't have booked are the cake and flowers...thinking about Club 86 for the cake and not sure about the florist.  Definitely going simple for both.  As far as flowers, pretty much just bouquets and bouts.  Any recommendations??

I'm using Chrissy and Chelse from Special Occasion Hair Design for hair and makeup (based in Rochester)...they're coming to us!  So far, Chrissy has been great (on email) about everything...I've got my trial in Feb.

We're using Rachel Gracie for photography....meeting her in person in Feb.  She seems awesome.

Any opinions or recommendations would be great!  From what I've seen, this is definitely one of the best boards!

    Woot woot!!!
Welcome and congrats!  Wow... planning from AZ... and I thought I was stressed.

I don't really know much about the area (Emie is our resident Geneva expert... I am sure she will chip in the next time she is on... she is really good about that)
I can definitely vouch for Club 86 (see my review)- the cakes are really yummy and amazingly priced, but.... like I said in the review, she is not so great at communication- which is annoying for me, but for someone who is across the country, that would be an even bigger pain.  Just food for thuoght.

Welcome to the board!  Visit often!

I know what it is like to be planning from far away... I am in Baltimore...

I went with Whistlestop florist. She is super nice and really easy to work with. I also really liked Backyard Gardens but unfortunately I couldn't pick two!!!

Cake... Sweet Endings bakeshop. Again super nice and the red velvet cake was to die for! The tasting was great with tons of different flavored cupcakes and once I had the red velvet Iw as sold... Of course I had time to eat the others, justttt in case!

    HI there!
Geneva has a few nice florist shops - Don's Own (I think they are on Seneca St) would be one to check out. I am not sure on pricing, but when I grew up there, it's who we used all the time.
I am going to be using someone out of Fairport (she will travel) and she's amazing, and I would highly recommend you contact her, because her pricing can't be beat, and she is really creative. Boquet's by Bonnie. I have my bouqet, 6 BM, , petals for the FG, the groom, and  5GM bouts, two larger wrist corsages for mothers, and then like, another 8 or 10 assorted bouts and corsages for special guests, and we are using roses in my boquet, and roses in all of of the women's corsages. oh yeah and she gives you a free toss boquet and my quote is about $750.

Soooo agree! Im biased cuz the owner is the mom of a good friend of mine, but still. Her cake is WOW! We couldnt chose just 1 flavor so we're going with the cupcakes and picking 3. Red Velvet, Almond (whoa!) and we havent decided on the 3rd yet.

no problem! Bonnie is really awesome.. it's her and her mom and I think her sister who run the shop, so I feel really happy working with a family owned business. I forgot to mention she or her mother make sure to deliver the flowers to you themselves at the ceremony site (or wherever) the day of. They pin the guys themselves, and make sure every girl has the right bouquet.

Thank you guys for the input!
I will be in NY for about 3 days in a couple weeks and have so much to do.  I'm definitely going to try and check out Bouquets By Bonnie (looks awesome!) and Club 86 for cake...I am a little worried about the communication issue with them, but I've at least got my Mom (who recently retired), my sister and best friend in the area, so I can always send them over  :)

kkozlo- I checked out the places you mentioned...definitely keeping them in mind if I can't find something closer.(I'll be in the Rochester area for those 3 days).

    Thanks again!

awesome you will LOVE her! mention Emily K. (Sept 17th is my wedding), she will know my last name :)
also with Lori L. she's got a facebook page - if you have trouble with email/phone, I would try getting at her this way too. I suppose I cheat by going through her daughters, but I know she checks the FB page. GL!
