I've been hiatus too long -- finally back -- plenty of updates: dress, location, dates, etc -- long

Hello NC Knotties!!!

After so many discussion of whether we were going to do
wedding reception & ceremony or start a family.
We've been having this talk since March and ....

We've finally and officially decided to have a wedding reception &
ceremony again.  The fiance (husband -- culturally
he's my husband) are on the same page -- my parents
are helping us out =)  So exciting!!!!

The date is set -- December 11, 2010.  It was originally going
to be May 21, 2011 but we're bumping it up.

The location has been changed from my sister's(MOH)
boyfriend's barn to the Hudson Uptown Building (Hudson, NC
-- between Hickory and Lenior). They allow outside catering,
and even though it's a dry county.  They are making the exception
to have beer & wine at the reception.

$600 ($100 is a refundable deposit) for the place that includes
round & banquet tables along with chairs, rental of the place
for up to 8 hours and every hour after is $50.   The location can
accommodate up to 350.   The coordinator Janice is
wonderful and soooo nice!

The ceremony is going to be civil ceremony style or
non-religious because of our cultural background
(we're both Hmong).  We're going to have hire an
officiant to ordain the marriage.  Does
anyone know one that is relatively
affordable (cheap)? Would only need them for
about 1 hour?

Theme -- Country Rustic Elegance
Flowers -- Peonies, garden roses, and hydrangeas

I'm DIY everything or as much as I can.

Example of my invite -- overlook the grammatical errors
and stuff I have there originally. It will be paired up a
kraft paper color envelope.

the font has changed to Blackjack which is like cursive writing.

I had originally bought a dress from Brides against Cancer
event and thought it was the one.  After a few months, I realize it
wasn't the one and plus my mom wasn't there to see me try it on
-- so I'm sure that played a big factor in why it didn't work out.

I asked her again to go with me to David's Bridal, fairly
recent late June.  I was just the happiest person ever and
enjoyed the experience the most. It was such a different
atmosphere having my mom, dad and sister there only.  They were
so honest about all the dresses I had tried on.  My dad
was so cute -- he's so stuck in the 80's or Princess
Diana look.  He wanted me to have the most purest
white color dress that is available and said the
more white it is the better, train over 6 ft long, the longest
Cathedral veil.

Finally -- This dress won me over and it's truly the one! I love
lace and ruffles.

My new inspiration scheme -- let me know what you all think?

I'll keep them coming!!!!

Love that dress! I ADORE ruffles. I didn't even realize how much until I got engaged and started wedding-planning, but I am a sucker for a good ruffle.

    Congrats on your major checks!

Awww, awesome for all the checks!  We're having a similar theme, can't wait to see all your plans!

    Are your invitations on cloth?

Random Note:  I LOVE your culture, I've had the opportunity to work with Montagnard/Hmong refugees before and by far one of my favorite experiences ever!

That's so wonderful that you've had the opportunity to work with both Montagnard/Hmong refugees.

As for my invitations, YES, they are on cloth. I just bought different floral prints fabric from JoAnn's or Mary Jo's .  Instead of using vellum paper  I decided to use clear transcluent paper (50sheet per pack) which was purchased from JoAnn's for $5.99.  1 sheet is making 4 invites (so yes -- very cost effective).

I'm either handstitching or sewing on the clear paper onto the fabric.  I will plan iron interfacing to stiffen the invite so it will be more sturdy.

I'll try to do post up step-by-step instructions when i get my camera back.

That is amazing!  I bet if you did a loose basting stich or a big zig zag stich on a machine it would look really awesome!

Can't wait to see more pictures :)

P.S. I'm also Hmong (from MN) and will be getting married in NC next week!
