Airports to Fly Into

Anybody know of any smaller airports near San Diego or Oceanside California that might be a little cheaper to fly into than SAN or LAX? FI and I are already planning my next trip out there for New Year's and tickets are obviously going to be pricey because of the holiday's. So I'm just trying to find ways to bring the price down just a tad :) Anyone know of any other airports or tips?

There's Burbank, John Wayne, Ontario, or Palm Springs. Honestly LAX is almost always the cheapest option out of those.

Usually, the smaller the airport the pricier the ticket... Mainly because small airports are usually more "convenient" for consumers, and more costly for the airlines.
Stan listed them, but I agree that LAX will probably be the cheapest you'll find.

Well since you mentioned LAX, I believe you won't mind the drive then? Why not try the Long Beach airport? It's usually cheaper than LAX especially with JetBlue.

Also, keep an eye on Bing flights, they have flight fare predictions that have always been true for me.

Shows how much I know! I thought smaller or less well-known airports would be cheaper lol The drive from LAX really sucks cuz the 5 always has major traffic, but I don't mind. Tickets are $400+ right now and I really don't want to pay that much if I don't have too. I'll keep an eye on bing.com. I've never tried the Long Beach airport or JetBlue, so I'll take a look at those too. I'll be happy when I buy my last plane ticket out there and can just stay there for good :)

</div><div>Usually bigger airports are less expensive to fly into than smaller ones, but not with JetBlue. They make their flights mostly to smaller airports and their flights are lower, with free checked luggage and even actual snacks. </div><div>
</div><div>Also, will your FI be with you or not? He's the military one right? He can get discounted flights from various airlines.

Yes FI is the one in the military but he won't be flying with me since I'm going to visit him, so I'm guessing that doesn't help me much lol I'm definitely going to take a look at Jet Blue and see how much it is to fly into a smaller airport with them.

Well crap. Only problem with Jet Blue is they don't fly out of Minnesota. Grrrrr.

Shoot, that stinks. Any other airports nearby that you can fly from? Try smaller airports from there. Also, try to fly on either Tuesday or Wednesday, they always have the cheapest flights.

Oh, and also, ONT airport isn't too bad in my experience, but then again, it's so convenient for me, so I may just be ignoring the fact that LAX is cheaper... anyway, we usually go Southwest. And, it's about 2 hrs away from SD

Also, the airline websites can track how many times you've looked at flights on that computer. It'll go up each time because they know you're interested and need to book.

I'll also say that there's very little chance that holiday flights will go down at all from now on.  Christmas and New Years are unique times in that the prices of tickets usually never goes down from the day they first make flights available.

They'll just keep going up and up and up.  Kayak.com is usually my go-to for finding the cheapest flight, but I also use CheapFlights.com and CheapTickets.com
