Venue

Hi, I'm new here.  I'm from Houston but planning on getting married in Austin.  I'm looking for an outdoor venue for the ceremony with an indoor option for the reception but I'm on a budget and every site I've been to blows my budget out of the water.  Is there anywhere around Austin where the rental for the facility is $2000 or less?  Thanks.

Becca

I am doing just our reception at mansion at judges' hill. We are having it on a Friday, so the rental was $1000. There is no extra cost for having the ceremony in the courtyard. What really brings the cost up is the food/drinks. So it really depends on your preferences on that and the number of people you expect. But it really is a pretty venue.

Have you looked at Phillips Event Center? If you go for a Friday or a Sunday, they may be able to get their fee lower. They were the lowest priced one we looked at, and we really liked their facility.

This came from another knottie on here, as I have not seen the actual place in person. The website pics are really nice, and the price is $800 for 8 hours.

mercury hall can be less than $2K, if you have your reception on a friday or sunday night, during certain (non-peak) months.  see their website for rates.  they also gave 10% booking discounts during the bridal extravaganza.

I would also suggest Mercury Hall... but I'm a little biased as that was my venue choice.  : )  Shoreline is also a good place with an out door option for the ceremony right on town lake and they do the catering.... so you don't end up paying for the place if you spend a certian amount.  I think about $3500 with food/alcohol.   But when I was looking, I found the girl (she was VERY new then, so maybe she's learned more by now) to be unprofessional and full of promises that she couldn't keep.  For example... she was sure it wouldn't rain on my wedding day.... basically because she had no idea what the plan was if it did rain.  Good luck!

I've heard you can negotiate with the guy there too.

Welcome! I am in Houston too.

Also think about what you want to spend on food. Some places offer really good packages that include food, cake and a vendor or two.

This may be a good jumping off point for you: http://www.austinweddingblog.com/

We are doing the retro package at Kindred Oaks.

Check out the Caswell House.  If you use one of their preferred caterers, you will receive $200 off their posted rates.

We married there several years ago.  It was an elegant venue, but quite reasonable in price.  If you choose either Friday or Sunday, the rates are considerably cheaper from their Saturday prices.
