Hiya! I'm also going to be a Columbia bride! Planning from Jacksonville, FL (yikes!). I know what you mean, mine isn't till March 12, 2011. I've already got the location, I'm just on a hunt for wedding planner :) No way can I plan from so far and keep my sanity.

So far we've only interviewed Craig Houston with White Tent Event, he seems absolutely amazing, but I'm looking at inquiring into a few more before making a choice. What wedding planners are you looking at?

I feel like I am going crazy already...tell me it 'lightens up' :-)

I met with Melanie Murphy, By Invitation Only...Event Planning and Design, love their work but the best thing is all the stuff they have to use.

    What about photographers???  Any suggestions?

Oh, I'll have to check out By Invitation Only as well. White Tent has alot of their own equipment too.

I don't know anything about the photographes in the Columbia area. I actually hired one from Jacksonville and they agreed to travel up to SC for my wedding (http://www.aviphotography.com/) . The photographers I'm using actally gave us a full engagement photo session for free, they were so confident in their work they would let it stand alone as our 'interview' for their services. I don't know if any of the photographers in Columbia do that, but I think it was a great expereince in deciding to use a photographer. We got to see their personality under stress ( 6 hours in the blazing hot florida sun brings out the 'best' in people) , we got to really interact with them and see how our personailities meshed and they had the opportunity to build a rapport with us.

I just started my search for wedding venues in Columbia. There aren't too many listed as vendors on this site. Does anyone know of interesting non-hotel venues that will hold around 125-150 people for a sit-down dinner? We'd like to do the ceremony and reception in the same place if possible. I'm looking at things like historic houses, the botanical gardens, the art museum...really all over the map at this point. I need the inside scoop!

Thanks in advance for your help!

5.14.11 - YAY!!! Have you considered Gene Ho for photography? They are out of Myrtle but have pretty reasonable rates and various packages available. www.geneho.com.

    Decided on a location yet?

My husband and I used White Tent Event (Craig & Julie Houston) and could not have asked for a better group to help us arrange our special day.  They sincerely care about their clients and are willing to work within whatever budget you have.  The day went off without a hitch and people have been coming up to us ever since and complimenting us on the gorgeous church set up and reception.  Anyone looking to get married in SC should give them a chance.

As for photographers we used Gene Ho, and more specifically Scott Lee.  He was awesome and made our photo sessions very relaxed and fun.  My husband is not a fan of having his picture taken and Scott did a great job of making it bearable for him.
