Congrats!  Guest list a year out?  I would hold off on that....

Great Checks!!!!  I am also going with Todd.  Smile  I have a rough draft of my guest list so we have an idea of how much our invitations will cost.  I want to get a rough idea so I can let my parents know.  They will be in town shortly and can't wait to discuss more wedding plans.

Unless you are buying your invites now, prices CAN change or better DIY kits can come available.  You can assume that you can get an invitation for anywhere from $1 to $10/each (and higher) so you should really just shape your budget and then determine from there.  I wouldn't price out invites until 6 months out.

aegrish - I need the guest list not only for the caterer but the STD's i want them to go out ASAP so people have as much time as possible to plan and save. I plan to invite people from Canada, UK and Australia so they need time to gather the necessary pennies.

Is a year really too early for a DW?

  • edited December 2011
I don't think there's anything wrong with rough drafting your guest list this early. If you don't have an approx head count, it's hard to price out anything: venue size, catering costs, etc.
Just be careful about telling these people that they're on the guest list if your not 100% sure. That way if budgets chane or your have to make cuts for another reason, you won't hurt feeling and whatnot

ETA: guest list and budget should be the first things that you plan out. That way you know what kind of wedding you can afford for the amount of people you there

congrats! where are you holding your wedding & reception? love getting the first things done :)

i dont think youre too early for STDs (we'll be sending ours out sometime over the summer for next june) but you could probably hold off on the invites for a while.especially since people coming from other countries they'll appreciate the time to save

The plan is a MB Vista in-suite wedding and reception. We can't book the room until June when the next years dates open up. So i'm trying to book everything i can and if we aren't able to get the suite for some reason all of the venders i'm talking to seem really accommodating if i need to make changes.

We won't send the actual invites until 3 months out. But the mintue we have a confirmed location i want to send the STD's to give people as much time as possible

    elle,

you can send your std without the final venue location as long as you know FOR SURE that you are going to be in vegas on that day for your wedding.  you don't need the exact venue nailed down yet UNLESS you think you will change your mind if you can't get what you want for that date.

that's why it's best to send an STD with fairly broad information 6-9 months out and then invites with exact info 6-10 weeks out.

Is your sn your real name? If it is, you should change it. There's lots of creepos out there.

I think 9-10 months out is good.  A year, eh that's good too but IMO 9 months is ideal. Be REAL careful about who you send STD's too or tell about the wedding that soon in advance...once you mention or send them an STD you're pretty much obligated to invite them, and I'm only saying this because I wish I would've held off.  I had some guest list 'regrets'.  Sometimes a that far out you can be overwhelmed with excitement and over-extend your guest list and budget before you realize how much everything costs.  A rough guest list now is OK, a 'set' one, I would hold off on.  Most vendors dont need a final count until a month before at the earliest...

Yay, you are literally the day before me, and I have Todd too!  Be good to him so he doesn't get hurt or anything and have to bail on me for my wedding! ;)

I think as soon as you've got your venue nailed down, you're good to send out STDs.  Especially if the bulk of your guest list is international (UK, Australia etc), the sooner, the better at the point.

Our STD'd did not mention our ceremony location or reception location.  As pps have said Las Vegas and the date is good enough, people can get a general idea of how much they need to save knowing the destination.

We sent our save the dates at the 12 month mark so that everyone could save their pennies (everyone is from  Aust, UK & Europe). I am actually glad that we did it so early as a lot of people booked their airfares late last year (for around the $1400 mark). Those that did not and still want to come are now looking at $2400 for around our wedding time.

I'm May 19, 2012, at MB :)  I can't wait!  I have a pretty decent guest list now (give or take a few spots), since we're going super small and have a max in our reception room.

    Congrats to you!

Ahh NYCheryl, we have the same date and I'm getting married at MB too.  Are you in VoTF or one of the chapels?  Maybe we'll run into each other, haha
