What are you doing for your AHR?

I'm getting married in Maui and then acing an at home reception. I'm really not sure if I should wear my dress and besides eating do you have a toast and dance etc. let me know what your plans are for your AHR!

Re: What are you doing for your AHR?

  • We're not planning one, though everyone else (parents, wedding guests, those who couldn't make the wedding) keep asking waht we're doing, when, where, so we might have to give in.  If we do, mit'll be a casual backyward BBQ, burgers, open house style.  Come when you can, viist, leave when you need to.  I'd consider wearing my dress again, just cos I think everyone who couldn't make it would want to see it.  And cos I love it too.  :)

  • We had our AHR at a local hotel with incredible food, dueling pianos for entertainment and I wore my dress : There are pics in my bio if you want some ideas as to one way it can be done. We were also married on Maui!
  • I'm actually pretty psyched about our AHR plan.  FI and I met at a wine-tasting class, so we are going to have a wine-tasting wedding celebration featuring the teacher from our class (he'll talk about the wines, etc.).  We're planning to have two "tasting tables" and hors d'oerves.  And cupcakes.   My mom wants me to wear the dress, but I am thinking I might show it off for a while and then change into regular clothes.  We won't have a dance or bouquet tossing or any of that stuff, and toasts will be welcome but not planned.

I loved the idea of a backyard BBQ, but we simply have too many people on our guest list for our home to accomodate.
  • Ours is going to be uber casual. We are renting out a local hall, have a friend who is a DJ and has offered to do the AHR, catering in a bunch of different foods and we're providing beer & wine (which is the norm among our friends). Its just going to be a big party :) There will likely be toasts knowing my friends, but none we're planning besides us toasting everyone for coming. I won't be wearing my dress, and we're not doing any of the other traditions either. There will be pictures from the wedding available.
  • Hi Everyone! I'm kinda new here. My partner and I are geting married in September 2012 in VT (we live in Charleston SC) and I'm thinking will probably do an AHR later too. However, is there any ettiquite on the time frame for the AHR? We will be paying for the wedding and the AHR ourselves so we may need to space it out a bit. We are planning for about 20 people at the wedding and there are so many we'd want to celebrate with later at home. Thanks!
