Getting in Shape

Tough question

I was diagnosed with Colitis back in January, after losing about 15 pounds (since last july), as of now, i've gained most of it back and I can fit in my dress without taking anything in (there's still a little wiggle room, but it's not enough to where it needs to be taken in), but I have horrible belly bloat, which is due to the disease, question is: how do I get rid of belly bloat without losing any weight? the wedding is about 4 months away so I cannot afford to lose anything....

Re: Tough question

  • This is really a question you need to ask your doctor. But coming from a family who suffers from colitis and Crohns, I know that different foods affect how bloated they are. Unfortunately that is pretty indvidualized, so you're going to have to see what makes you more bloated. There are also different medications to help treat the symptoms of colitis (and I don't know if your doctor wants you on anything since it depends on the severity, etc) but some can take time to work. Sorry to hear about your new diagnosis but good luck with the journey and the wedding!
  • I have gastroparesis which is very, very different but also can lead to a pretty permanent bloat.  My solution has been rosemary water (which I posted about a few months back.)  Check with your doctors to see if there would be any issues drinking this, and then perhaps give it a try.

If you're cleared, here's how I make it (it's basically just like tea):
Boil three cups of water.  Put dried rosemary into a tea strainer, and steep it in the boiling water for 8 minutes.
Remove tea strainer/rosemary from water.  Dilute the rosemary water with a few cups of regular water.  You can essentially do this to taste, I just fill a pitcher with cold water and drink a large cup each day during the week.

It WILL dehydrate you, though, so make sure to drink extra 'regular' water.
