Looking for some song suggestions for farther/daughter and mother/son dance and cake cutting (well cupcake cutting). I can't find anything that I really like or stands out to me. No Country Music suggestions please!

    We did Love and Happiness by Mark Knopfler (sp?) and Emmylou Harris (who is country, but the song isn't) and we did the M/S and F/D dance together.  For the cake cutting, we did The Sweetest Thing by U2 (we used the quote about the blue eyed boy and brown eyed girl on our candy bar labels).

    My Dad is a HUGE van Morrison fan- and also he isn't the most emotional kind of dad. He's more of a call to make sure I cahnged the oil kind of dad and hand off the phone to my mom. We only really talk about the Red Sox, how my car is running, and my job.
    I would consider the relationship of the parent when chosing a song.

    Since my dad isnt very wishy washy, I decided that I would chose something that wasn't so emotional so I went with "Have I told you lately", van Morrison. SInce my dad rarely actually says I love you, but I know that he does and so I thought tis fit nice.

    My F/D dance was to Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight". My M/S dance was to "Edelweiss" (German family, lol).

    I swear I posted on this earlier this week but maybe the knot is wacky.
    I said that i think its best to think of the "relationship" the two people have.
    For exxample my dad and i aren't incredibly close, he calls to check that i have my oil changed and sometimes we discuss sports- thats about the extent of it. Obvisously my dad loves me but ts not something he expreses often.
    So I chose Van Morrison's "Have I told you lately"--- because my dad is a huge Van Morrison fan.

    My fiance and his mom are dancing to Sunrise Sunset, because that was hjer wedding song.

    I have no idea about a cake cutting song yet though! I was thinking Sweet Caroline- since we met in Boston

    @ i2012do - I love the idea for your cake cutting song! I think it's a great ideo to do something fun for your cake cutting. We chose 1,2,3,4 by Plain White T's b/c it's light hearted and it is actually "our song" but we didn't feel it was really right for our first dance song, so that's how we incorporated it into the reception. It was perfect!!
