Tent layout

So the quality of the pic kind of sucks but you get the idea.

Our reception is tented. Originally we hadn't planned on sides on the tent, meaning I wasn't too concerned about fitting everyone under. But now I've started worrying it may get too cool in NC at night in mid october for it to be open so we're getting sides put on the tent to keep it warm, thus everyone needs to fit.

This is for the reception only, our cocktail hour (weather permitting) will be outside the tent around a bonfire.

Everything is done to scale, total tent size is 30 x 60

The buffett is in the bottom left corner, bar in the bottom right.
Dessert table center top, with the sweetheart table below it.
Dance floor is the pink square, band set up below that.
Each small round table is actually the 5 foot round, larger circle is the buffer space for chairs.

Good? bad? suggestions?

Re: Tent layout

  • I think it looks pretty good, my only concerns are the buffet line moving smoothly around the corner and there being enough room between chairs (at different tables) to move to and from the buffet. There doesn't seem to be a lot of walking space between the tables and chairs, which could lead to some spilled food (hopefully only on the floor) or some tight squeezes, depending on how people get sent to the buffet.

What is your band setup like? Will they be on a stage and taking up the full area you allotted them?  If it wouldn't be too awkward, I would move the bar and the buffet to the top and align it with the dessert table and then shift the tables down a bit.
  • I have 2 concerns.  First is the buffett line.  It might get a little tight around that.  I am assuming though that you are starting the line at the table closest to the band area.  The second is the dessert table.  Is that going to be a buffet style too?  There is not much room for people to get to it if it is.

This. However, if you can't make it work any other way than how you have it - I think that will work out fine.

With your suggestions taken in...also entrance to the tent included in purple. Important since it will be closed in.

The tables are still a bit tighter then I'd like but the tables in the back by the band are our younger cousins/friends. Those that should be able to manuever easier.

Also dessert table is for display only. After the cutting waiters will be around with options.

Or this... completetly switched up and I swapped out the 8 ft banquet table and replaced it with a 5 foot round for the cake table

  • I think second picture is best so far.  #3... idk, I wouldn't want people sitting behind me like that.

That's whats bugging me about #3 too... I like everything else but it weirds me out our table just kinda being in the mix.

  • I would like the 3rd one if there was not Sweetheart table.  Maybe doing a table with your wedding party or parents only.

  • Definitely the second one over the third; I think things will flow more smoothly and be less cramped both for seating and at the buffet.
  • Have you thought about having the buffet on the dance floor, then clearing it away after. My brother I'd that and it helped with space issues a lot

Maybe like this (kinda messy, I did it in paint)  The thing I worry about with this is the line that will form around the bar, only you can judge how bad that might be, but I guessing you won't be at your table past eating so it MIGHT be ok.

Also, where is the entry into the tent?  That will matter quite a bit.
