Rehearsal attire

What are you wearing to your rehearsal dinner?

I LOVE the idea of a reception dress that is short and cute... but I LOVE my gown so much that I couldn't bear to only wear it for a few hours and then change.  But I was thinking about getting the cute/short white dress and wearing it to the rehearsal and the dinner that night.  Anyone else doing this?  Will I be wayyyy overdressed?

Re: Rehearsal attire

  • I think it just depends on where your rehersal dinner will be.  A nice restaurant would make a white formal dress seem appropriate.  I am having my rehersal and in the 2nd story of an old country western type boutique/eatery and I plan to wear a dress from anthropologie that looks a bit country and chic. It's really up to you... its your wedding do what you want. Just make sure your groom dresses as nice as you are.
  • I kind of wanted to do a tea-length white dress for the wedding, but its too formal and I decided why wear a dress that you can wear everyday to your wedding?  To compromise I am wearing a tea-length white dress for the rehearsal and on the honeymoon!

  • I'm wearing a cute short white dress.  I still don't know where the RD will be since FI's fam hasn't gotten it together but I decided not to wait on them any longer.  My dress makes me happy and I'll wear it to In-N-Out if I have to LOL!
  • I am planning on wearing a white dress to my rehearsal dinner but haven't found anything yet.  I think it is ok if you are more dressed up than others attending-you are the bride to be :)

[QUOTE]I think the restaurant is relatively fancy.  We ate there for my sophomore prom... I could pull off a white cocktail dress there.

Then do it!!  :)  I wanted to do this but we are having a casual dinner at my house so I ended up getting a dress in one of the wedding colors (purple, and i love it!). I think that a white cocktail dress is a great idea.
  • we are having a bbq at our beach house for the rehearsal dinner and I found a very cute sundress thats brightly colored flowers on it I LOVE it I feel cute in it. Wear what you want to wear you are the bride!

  • I wore a dress from David's Bridal that was in our wedding colors, black and champagne.  It was fun and I didn't care if I was the only one dressed up--I was the bride!  :)
  • There is a short one I liked at David's... I want one with a big bow in the back, strapless, and short.  Any suggestions?

  • I'm probably just going to wear some comfy clothes! I'm not really a dress person. We're having our rehersal at the park next to my house and a bbq to follow!

  • I'll be there in jeans!
Myself and my army of help will be there decorating and setting up Friday afternoon & evening, so we'll already be there for the rehearsal.  Talk about casual!  We'll prpbably feed my army & the wedding party Walmart chicken platter!

  • Heres an idea... You love your bridesmaid dresses right? As does every Bride thats why they pick them... and yet... they sadly never get to wear them! SO! You could buy and wear one or one similar to your bridesmaid dress! That would be so Cool and thats an idea that I think I might try now! Good luck< and by far make sure your comfortable your going to be so stressed before you need to relax the night before!
    God Bless!
A love like this doesn't happen but once in a lifetime and I'm so happy that it happened in mine. Wedding Countdown Ticker

Thanks!  This was my original plan actually :-) I'm just waiting for a sale to see which option would be cheaper!  I'm chaperoning the prom at the school where FI teaches.. so I need a fancy dress anyway!

  • we're having a crawfish boil for our rehearsal dinner. it's VERY messy, so I will be very casual--tshirt and jeans, something that I wouldn't mind getting messed up. I'll still make sure it's cute, but something cheap and easily washed. and yes, I will make sure that the RD guests are aware of this as well.

  • I found a cute semi-formal white dress for $24! That is what I plan on wearing to my RD. I wasnt really looking for white necessarily but I couldnt pass it up for that price.
  • Girl, I plan on taking advantage of every opportunity to dress up (but that's just me.) I agree that you may want to let the restaurant dictate the attire (or you could let your dress pick the restaurant!) Ask your close girlfriends to get fancy too so you won't feel awkward or overdressed. :)
  • I am doing the same thing. Who cares if you are over dressed? You know that people are going to be taking photos at the rehearsal dinner, so why not look beautiful! The week of your wedding is YOUR week. Do what you want. :)
  • My problem with getting a cute white dress is when can I wear it after? Weddings are pretty much the only time I get to wear semi formal dresses, and I certainly can't wear a short white dress to one. I'm thinking I'll go with champagne or something a little darker. Still a nice sort of fancy dress, but one I can wear again.

I agree with OP-- I see the appeal of a short reception dress for the big day, but there is no way I'm only wearing my wedding gown for a few hours. I might sleep in it and wear it to brunch the next day!
  • Definitely do it! I can't wait to start the festivities and get dressed up for the RD, 4 inch heels included. Cathedral appropriate of course, but then the dinner itself is at a very modern and cool space. Dress up and enjoy yourself, if you feel great it will show :)
  • My rehearsal dinner will be at a pizza place.  I'll probably try to put something cute together, but certainly nothing fancy and certainly nothing white, and certainly nothing expensive.  It's going to be relaxed and only for the bridal party and immediate family.

Sorry to change the subject, but your weight-loss ticker makes me really sad.  It's great that you want to get into shape, but I think you should realistically evaluate your goals.  A 20 BMI is borderline unhealthy, especially in the time that's listed form now until your wedding.  I really hope you don't feel that you have to accomplish that before your big day, and that you'll be beautiful to your future husband no matter what.
