I whitened my teeth using the toothpastes and am told that I have a beautiful white smile.  So I recommend that way.  My old roomate used the strips had good success with them.  Just please be careful, after years of whitening my teeth they are now super sensitive and I have a lot of pain sometimes.

I had the same sensativity problem when I whitened mine.  I tried the crest white strips.  After I coudln't each anything cold anymore without it realy hurting, I gave up.  I'm not sure if getting it done professionally eliminates this problem.

I just went to the denitst a few weeks ago and posed this question to him. He recommended that I go with the over the counter whitening strips as opposed to him doing it. He said it would save alot of money and the whitening services at dentists really arent worth it unless its an extreme case.

When you go to your dentist, ask them if they have tooth samples. Its like a tray of teeth that show how white your teeth should be at certain ages. If you're not far off, I would go with the over the counter products.

I would try the over the counter stuff first. If you don't get the result that you want, then go to the dentist.

I have always had pretty good luck with the White Strips.  Teeth get really sensitive for a while, but they work pretty well.

The professional jobs are loads of money and way painful from what I hear!

I've used Crest White Strips before with good results.  At first I had some sensitivity using them twice a day like the package suggests, but after my dentist suggested using it only once a day, my teeth felt much better.  I still got great results, it just took a little longer.

I'll echo lmparlett and kartygrl and say go for the Crest Whitestrips.  I try and use them 2x a year to whiten my teeth (I drink a lot of coffee!) and I think they work pretty well.  My teeth always look pretty white in photos (imho) which is good enough for me.  Just started another round since I have my engagement pics coming up in less than a month!  Good luck!!!

    I second what kartygirl said...

I use one a day instead of the two to avoid sensitivity.

I'm going to try the GOSMILE system from Sephora.  It gets rave reviews and it is just a packet you put on and go - it's not left on your teeth for an extended period of time!
