Plus size sample dresses

I am a 14/16 street size so that means I will need a size 18/20 wedding dress.  Can anyone tell me which bridal salons in Maryland have a nice variety of sample dress sizes? I am not interested in squeezing in to a size 10 or having someone hold a dress up in front of me.

Thanks!

You could try Davids Bridal or Alfred Angelo, I'm pretty sure they had dresses in larger sizes.

A note: I'm a size 12 in street clothes, and my Sottero and Midgely dress is a size 12. I thought it weird but the dress looks great! (except for being about two feet too long -  geez I'm short).  I think some lines actually use street sizes for their dress sizes.

Try Stella's in Baltimore.  I think they had a pretty good selection.

Thanks to all of you for the replys.

I had a horrible experience at Davids Bridal in Glen Burnie last year.  I'd just started looking and when I went the store was dirty, the consultant helping me looked like she had just crawled out of bed, and she left me alone in 15 minute increments.  I tried Alfred Angelo but their dresses just didn't do it for me.

There are several Maggie Sottero gowns I am in love with so I am really interested in finding stores that carry sample sizes larger than the 10 everyone seems to carry.  I don't understand why stores wouldn't carry a variety of sample sizes?  I mean, isn't my size 14/16 money green too?

Unfortunately most places only carry one of each sample, except for David's and Alfred Angelo.  I only shopped at DB and AA for my dress but I know my BMs wer a little frustrated at bridal shops beause the samples were large on them and a lot still got lost in translation when pinning the dresses to fit.

You might want to try a different DB (I had good experiences in York PA) and Alfred Angelo (Harrisburg and Lancaster tend to be better than the one in MD if that is an optin for you) to get an idea of what cuts look best on you before going to a smaller salon.  I think salons can usually pin things to at least give you a good idea of what it will look like.

    Please let me help you.

You can try Stella's (which is actually walking distance from me) but I didn't care much for the store or the consultants. They do have a large plus-sized selection though.

But the absolute best place for plus-sized samples is a store that carries nothing but. Seriously. Here's a link: http://www.curvaceouscoutureonline.com/

Also, I didn't visit there or get my dress there. I am roughly the same size as you and had good luck at Juliette's in Parkvilla and Amanda Ritchey's in Fallston. Unltimately, I bought my dress at Amanda Ritchey's.

Edited to say that out of all the shops I just listed, the only one I know that for sure carries Maggies is Juliette's. They are super nice there too. I don't know how many Maggies they have that would fit you though. I fell in love with one early on and stopped trying on other dresses there. It ended up being that or a dress at Amanda Ritchey's. You already know which I chose.

I bought my dress from Pizazz bridal in Aberdeen. They were super nice, you can see what dresses they have in stock on their website listed by size, and it also lists the prices.

Edited to say they carry lots of Maggie Sottero and Sottero and Midgley dresses.

One word of caution, Pizzezz has about 4 or 5 dresses total in the size range you need. And I think I tried them all on. They are super nice but just don't have a large plus sized selection.

    UPDATE!

I just finished trying on dresses at Bridals by Niko and it was awesome!  I'd read some  horrible reviews about the shop online, but the reason I went was because of the initial customer service I received on the phone.

After visiting the Maggie Sottero website and printing out the list of the authorized dealers in Maryland, I made a list of the dresses I was interested in trying on.  Considering many stores do not carry larger sample sizes, my intent was to call some of the stores on the list, ask them if I could fax or e-mail my list to them, then have them fax the list back to me confirming whether or not they had the chosen styles in sample sizes to fit my size 14/16 body.  Long story made short, my initial phone interaction with my consultant Jean was very pleasant.  I e-mailed her the information and she got the information back to me the very next day.

I arrived 30 mins early for my appointment and they allowed my mom and I to look around the store.  There were plenty of larger size Maggie Sottero samples for me to try on and I felt beautiful in each one.  I am actually torn between two dresses and I am supposed to go look at more Maggies somewhere else next weekend.  If you are curvy girl and you want affordable luxury,  I strongly urge you to try on a Maggie!  Be sure to buy your own supportive strapless bra to bring to appointments.  Fredericks of Hollywood has some nice ones.  I bought a great one one from the FOH in Marley Station for $32! (bridal stores have ones you can use, but there is something about using a bra someone else has had on that creeps me out)

Jean was so very sweet, knowledgeable, and engaging - she really made the appointment a pleasure for us.  I didn't feel any kind of pressure After my appointment was finished, another consultant, Diane, assisted my mother with MOB dresses.  Diane was a pleasure to work with as well.  The owner was pleasant too - I've read some bad things about him online as well, but he was nice to me and I didn't even spend a dime in the store today.

Sorry for the long post but the good experiences deserve just as many words as the bad ones!

I know this is not in MD but All Classic Weddings in Lititz pa has a huge plus size selection, beautiful gowns.  It may be worth the trip.  I am so sick of seeing ugly ass dresses for us plus size girls.  Just because we are plus size dont mean we go no style.  :(
