Additional WTF

So, a diamond fell out of my e-ring.

Not "the" diamond, thank god, but one of the pave diamonds around the band. WTF.

Has anyone had this happen? My fiance is furious and is on the phone with his jeweler right now. Now I'm worried because my wedding band is the same - all pave diamonds all around. Do I need to worry about this happening all the time for the rest of my life?

(Freak out over.)

Edit: I thankfully found the diamond (who knows how) on my desk, so at least we don't need to replace that.

Re: Additional WTF

  • I don't actually -- Fiance bought it in Cincinnati and I only bring it to places to get it cleaned, but I've only done that twice. I stare at my ring pretty much daily, though, so I would notice if they were missing (which is what happened today). This whole thing makes me really uneasy though.

  • This happened to one of my smaller diamonds like 2weeks after being enagaged!  I was so sad and didn't find the diamond. It was all covered under the warranty policy he bought with the ring thankfully. I remember I paid extra to rush it back from being fixed so i could make sure I had it for our engagement party. Now it is good as new and I haven't had any further issues. Hopefully yours it just a 1 time thing too. I think thats why I have to take my ring in every 6 months to be cleaned to keep our warranty active because they check for any loose diamonds and inspect it.

  • lvissers - How long did it take to get it back from the jeweler? I really don't want to not have my ring this whole weekend during my brother's graduation festivities, but I can handle it if they need to keep it to check all the diamonds. This whole thing is annoying as F.

    Glad you found that diamond.

About five months after we got engaged is was brushing my hair and heard something rattling. I figured it was my diamond.  I took it in and sure enough it was lose.  They kept it a couple of days and tightened it back up.  I also have to take mine in at least every six months or as often as I like to get it checked out.  The warranty FI paid extra replaces the stone for one of equal or greater value if it is ever lost and any repairs like when they tightened my stone back up are free.

I hope you are able to get it fixed quickly.

  • I got the diamond replaced and got the ring re-sized at the same time. They shipped it somewhere and I didn't have it for a whole week :-( If your ring is from a local jeweler that isnt a chain, and you have the diamond and everything, then you might luck out and they can get it fix it overnight or within a couple days max.

  • Hmm, ok. Thanks ladies. The ring was purchased in Cincinnati, so it's not local to me. I am almost positive that my fiance is supposed to send it to Cincinnati to be fixed, but I just don't know if I want to do that. I'll talk with him about it tonight. :( WAHHHHHHH.

    I'm so annoying.

  • The same thing happened to my ring about a month or so after we got engaged, but it happened after they sized it down, and I think three stones total ended up falling out! They ended up replacing my ring with a brand new one. It sucks, but unfortunately, that's one of the problems with pave' settings :( I haven't had any issues since then, thankfully but I take it in ever 6 months to get checked!
  • This happened to me about a month into wearing my ering. I thought the same thing as youwill I have to worry about this forever?? Luckily, it hasn't happened since it got fixed, and I'm happy to report that my diamonds have all stayed in for the past 17 months!

  • I also had a diamond fall out - 4 days after getting my ring!! But I also had the warranty and they replaced it right away. I took it in on Monday and had it back Thursday. It was from a chain store so they had to send it off, but a small local jeweler should be able to fix it on-site especially since you have the diamond. My jeweler told me that it is common for stones to get loose when a ring is sized. Good luck! Hope you get it repaired quickly!
  • OH MY GOD THIS IS MY WORST NIGHTMARE!!!

I had a dream a few nights ago that my cousin put my ring in her mouth (she is like 12 so I have no idea why she did it) and some of my diamonds came out in her mouth. Seriously, I dream about this a lot.

I am SO glad you found the diamond. This happened to one of my co-workers - she actually has had two diamonds fall out around her band. crazy....

oh, and my mom had her solitaire fall out and she never found it. that happened when we were on vacay when I was about 9 years old. We spent a whole day retracing our steps, and never found it. I think that is where my irrational fear of diamonds falling out came from.

No it has not happened to me but I am petrified of it happening!!  However our jeweler has told us if it ever happens they will replace the smaller diamonds for free.  Good thing you found it!!!  If you didn't your insurance should hopefully cover it.
