Groom Gift

My fiance and I are planning on exchanging gifts prior to the wedding.  The whole engagement we have talked about me changing my last name and I have been adamant about hyphenating.  So for his gift I have decided to not hyphenate and take his name, I just need some ideas on how to "wrap" that since I can't actually change my name till I have the marriage certificate.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

I also wanted a special way to tell FI that I'm taking his last name, so I made us t-shirts.  Our wedding date is 7/20, so the back of his t-shirt says "B. FI'sLastName" with the number 7, and mine says "L. FI'sLastName" with the number 20.  The front has a heart where the left breast pocket would be, under which is written "Est. 2013."  I wrapped his in a box to give to him, and I was wearing mine under my jacket.  When he opened the gift and saw what it was, he asked what mine said, and that's when I took off my jacket and turned around to show him.  He loved it.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

[QUOTE]I would have a pair of sexy underwear made that said "Mrs. HisLastName" and wrap those in a box with a note that said "For Later", but that's just how I roll.

  • These are great ideas so far, thank you so much for your help!  We are getting married in 38 days so I have to get a move on. Laughing
  • I did customized football jerseys (H had always wanted one) - one for him and one for me, with my new last name on it.  I gave him both on the morning of our wedding.

You could just write it in a letter. I just gave my fiance a card to read before the ceremony with a little love note about how much I loved him and was excited to marry him, etc, etc. Sure, its not terribly creative or cute, but it was a big surprise to him since we hadn't discussed giving gifts (and we weren't seeing eachother before the ceremony) and it got him all misty eyed. It just depends if you want to keep it light hearted/ sexy or pull at his heartsrings, or a little of both.  I don't think there is a wrong way for you to do- he will love it no matter how you tell him!
  • You could have both of your names (your new one) calligraphyed or painted by an artist intoa  nice framed artwork.
