This is the first vendor I am booking for our wedding next October. I called today to see if our date was available and Adam said that they require a $200 deposit to hold the date that can be used towards our flowers.  Is that normal?  I haven't even had a meeting with him to discuss our ideas and what the cost would be.

    I used him.  We first met with him and when we decided we were going to use him we then left a deposit.  I don't remember how much though.

    That does sound a little strange to me that he would say that, unless it's something new.

    perhaps he meant when you meet with him? i left my deposit at my first meeting when i decided i was going to use him, but it was less than $200. unless, like pp said, it's a new policy he put into place.

    We are using him, he is great.
    We met with him first and decided on the spot at that point we left our deposit.
    But it sounds like if you want him to hold that date he will need the deposit.
    I would just schedule an appointment to meet with him.
    I think you will be very happy with him.

    I would schedule an appt with him first.  that's probably what he meant.  we are using him as well.  met with him last year, then met other florists, then went back and put a 1/3 of the total as the deposit.  we gave him the other 1/3 at the mock up and will pay him the rest this week since our big day is next sat.  
    he's been great.
