Wine Tours

Ok, so my sister is looking to go on a wine tour for her B-Party (shes also thinking she'll be sober enough to hang out after...she doesnt drink much. HA) I know a bunch of you *ahem*monica*ahem* like your wine tours, so I wondering if you guys could give me an idea of cost and the best way of going about it all. Im assuming a full tour (pick up and drop off) would be the best idea so we can all enjoy ourselves and drink. Im gunna say maybe 10-20 people (not sure if theres a base rate or pp rate). What can you ladies tell me??

    Ohh... YEAH!!!!

So... the best way to do it is rent a trolley or shuttle bus or party bus.  Limos are cool.... but it's a lot more fun to be able to move around, stand up and dance... especially for a b-party.

If you contact different companies, most of them will have some sort of wine tour package or even bachelorette package.  It's a pretty popular thing, so chances are they do several throughout the year and will be able to take it and run with it.

For mine, we gave the driver a list of 10-ish wineries that we would like to stop by.  Due to time constraints, we were only able to make it to like 6 of them.  You know how it goes... when you get a big group together, somone always has to take a smoke break, someone always has to pee, someone always wanders off... it takes forever to load everyone up and get everyone moving.

I suggest leaving as early as possible... 9-10am-ish.  Most of the wineries open at 11, but they close at like 5 or 6... so you don't want to get a late start.  Also, most of the wineries require large groups to call ahead, so you will need to plan carefully which ones to stop at and what time you will be there.  I am not really an itinerary person, but in this case, it helps.  I would suggest about 1 hour per winery and give your "schedule" to your driver.  Ask them to help corrall everyone on the bus when needed and help you stay on track.

Definitely absolutely positively bring food.  We loaded our bus with bagels (to compliment the mimosas, of course), cheese, fruit salad, tons of snacks.  I was so glad we did, because I was starving about 1/2 way through.

As for an after party... No way in hell will she be able to hang after... I thought she didn't even drink at all.  Even if she did though... yeah... it's a long day and you're pretty spent by the time you get back to Syracuse.

Oh- price wise... well... depending on what time of year you go, the Seneca Lake Wine Trail offers different tasting "passes"... I know in the winter they do one for $15 and in early spring I think its $20.  Summer/fall is prime time, so they usually don't run one.  If you don't go during the time they have passes, each winery is $2 or less.  For the party bus, 3 of my BMs threw in $100 and the other girls split the difference.  I think it came to $40/each.  Not too bad really when you think about it.  Waaaay less than a night out, for sure.  The more girls you can get, the less it will be per person, obviously.  I think we only had 12 that went... so I'm guessing about $600ish for the party bus.

There are a bunch of limo companies in the area that specialize in winery tours. Probably the most popular one in Geneva is Fitzgeralds. They have a public wine tour on one of their trolleys that runs on the weekends where you pay $45 per person. They have all different sized vehicles and are good about helping with an itinerary if you aren't sure on the timings.

My MOH is planning my bachalorette party using Fitzgeralds out of Geneva.  Six hour minimum on a Sunday for 15 girls is going to be $50 bucks a girl including tax and tip. Not too bad - they are picking us up in Canandaigua going over to the east side of Seneca lake down through Watkins and back up the west side stopping at at least 5 places.
