QOTD 3/12

TK ate my last post on this so if that shows up again pick one to use.

What was the worst pain you've ever been in?  If it was from an accident what happened?

Re: QOTD 3/12

  • I'm fairly lame..I've never broken any bones or had major surgeries other oral stuff. I guess the worst pain was when I was in 5th grade. I had major pain in my abdomen area. Like on the ground, can't move kind of stuff. They thought it was appendicitis but it wasn't. The pain went away after a day but I was really sick for 2+ weeks. They could really figure out what was wrong. The best they came up with was an 'infection of unknown origin'.

  • I would have to say the stomach ache I had a few months after my weight loss surgery. I had tried out a new food item back into my diet and my body rejected it. I was in soo much pain I was in tears. I thought my stomach staples had come out. Went to the ER but everything was fine.

  • I smashed my knee cap surfing when I was much younger; I mean shattered, splintered bone everywhere.

I was in so much pain I was nauseous but couldn't throw up, coudln't cry or anything. I just sat on the sand with a stoic face until the ambulance arrived. I have never been in so much pain before or since.

  • It's a toss up between having an ovarian cyst burst or when I had my deviated septum fixed. From time to time I develop cysts on my ovary and they do burst eventually and it causes a lot of curl yourself up in a ball and pray for death pain. About six years ago after having continuous sinus infections my ENT convinced me to have nasal surgery to fix my septum. The whole right side of my nose was completely blocked, so they had to take out cartilage, a piece of bone, take one turbinate out, and trim the other one. I had a mild allergic reaction to the anesthesia they used, which caused vomiting (mostly blood) and shaking. I went home with packing in my nose, and these two 3 inch long tubes that criss crossed around my septum to prevent it from shifting, the packing came out two days later but the tubes stayed in for 4 weeks and were very uncomfortable in my already sore nose. Other then that I have broken toes, fingers, sprained knees, ankles, all of which I can deal with.

  • Stupid TK....

I already posted but its gone....

I have never broken a bone or really gotten hurt. I did have a nice fall in basketball in high school right onto my chin and needed about 20 stitches. But I think labor takes the cake on this question.... but that was  "good pain".

  • This is probably going to sound gross, just a heads up.
When I was a teenager, I got an infected spider bite in the middle of my back. It formed a giant, puss-filled sack that was probably 3 inches in diameter, and it was incredibly tender to the touch. I remember laying on my stomach in bed for hours without a blanket or shirt on because the weight of even just a t-shirt caused so much pain. So anyway, I went to the doctor, and of course he wanted to drain it. So he used an enormous needle to poke multiple holes in it, and then squeezed it to get all the yucky stuff out. I can't even explain how much it hurt (he didn't give me anything for pain or numb it at all before he did it). I remember screaming and squeezing my mom's hand, and my mom screaming because I was hurting her haha. But jeez, it was soooo awful...

  • I went to Africa to study rhinos the summer before I was graduating college. I came back with some kind of terrible illness (never diagnosed) that sent my immune system into overdrive. Anyway, my body began to attack itself and that meant spinal taps to figure it out. Since my body was working right, the hole in my spinal column wouldn't heal on its own which meant leaking spinal fluid = massive cluster migraines. The only way to fix this is to take my own blood, spin to get just the platelets and reinject it into my spinal column as a blood patch. That giant needle pushing blood into a tiny spot on my spine was the only time I have ever vomited from pain (and I have had 5 knee surgeries).
