Dress Shops

Hi all.  I don't usually post on this board as I am getting married in New Jersey.  However, I live in LA so I was hoping you might be able to answer my question.  I am looking for some dress shop recommendations.  There are so many stores that I have no clue where to go!  My sister is coming into town next weekend, so I would like to check out at least 2-3 shops.  I already have an appointment at Ibex International in downtown, as they carry a couple of the designers I am looking at.  Any clue on where else I should look?  I am looking to spend no more than $1000 so I want to avoid the high-end shops.  Thanks ladies!

I second Jagore... Pebbles has such a wide selection at all price points.  I found my dress there and was soooooo happy with everything.  GL!

I wouldn't go to Ibex International, there are very rude there.  I went Pebbles and they have a large selection. That's where we are getting my BM dresses from.

Congrats! I'm also looking for a friend and maybe even myself in the future. Here's what I've found:

Nordstrom has a great assortment of gowns that are under 1000 dollars. I've also looked into Nicole Miller and Jenny Yoo in Los Angeles if you like simple chic designs. They do have some gowns within your budget. If you're also looking into the OC, I also have a recommendation as well.

I recommend the Glamour Closet south of Melrose, but it's not quite your typical dress shop.  Everything they have was once a sample dress, so they're last season's styles.  However, they're also discounted off of the designer price, so you can get a $2000 dress for your $1000 budget.  Check them out after visiting some of the other shops suggested, if you haven't already found your dress.

Thank you everyone.  I ended up keeping my appointment at Ibex and I wish I had listened and not gone!  Certainly an interesting experience.  I immediately got in my car and went to Pebbles where I found my dress!!!

what happened at IBEX? i bought my dress there and as soon as i walked out i felt completely swindled :( i love my dress, and i guess it was a good deal but my was it crappy!!

    My experience:
walk in look at 11 binders of magazine clippings in plastic sheet protectors and place bookmaark in interested choices

have the bookmarks taken out by the rude consultant because "i wouldnt like the way that dress would look on my LARGE body" (please! im a size 11!!!)

so out of the 2 that she allowed to try on of my choices, she suggests different dresses (which worked out because i chose one and love it)

rude attendant yells at my mom for trying to capture the moment and take a pic

rudely asks my mom if she is my grandma (even though my mom doesnt even look old) then doesnt apologize when my mom looked offended

i asked her who the designer is of the dress i was purchasing, and she told me she doesnt know... she will let me know in november when it arrives from the manufacturer. .... i felt uneasy but really loved the dress... i saw the dress in a magazine before and recognized it as a maggie sottero but just wanted her to confirm, and she wouldnt budge...and the magazine clip out she had in the binder, had the designers name cut out... my theory is they are going to send for a replica and just dropped a designer price tag on me ... we will see in november ... :(
