Honeymoon Registry

It has been suggested that I should create a honeymoon registry where guests can give money toward an activity instead of general money for the honeymoon. For instance, dinner out, kayaking, or a spa trip. Have any of you created one of these? What has your experience been and what do you suggest?

This comes up a lot, here is the most recent thread.  If you search, you will find many more.  I didn't read all the replies here, but most of them say the same thing.

Personally I don't like them, but I think that if you're considering it you really need to think about how it will be received by your particular guests, and that you should have a traditional option as well.  And you should know that it is not actually registering for activities, even though it may appear that way to guests - you will just get a check to use the money as you wish; hopefully, you will actually use it to pay for the things that your guests think that they paid for.

  • There are a thousand honeymoon registry posts on this board, AT LEAST one a week. Just search the board for it and you will find plenty of information and lots of opinions.

  • I am not asking whether or not people think they are tacky or if I should do one. I want to know from those who did do one which website they used and whether or not it was a success.

Silly me for thinking this question was open to everyone then about our experiences with HM registries (as a guest) and what we suggest.
  • thanks! I hadn't heard of that one
  • I used Traveler's Joy, it was well received by my friends and family, and we were very happy with our experience.  Feel free to PM me with any questions.

I did also did a traditional registry as well, which I highly recommend, especially if someone is giving you a shower.  No one wants to come to a shower to watch you open up cards.  The Registries and Gifts board has a great sticky of things to register for when you can't think of anything.  There will always be people who prefer to bring a traditional gift to a wedding.

  • We're thinking of doing this as well as an addition to our registries at Macys & Bed, Bath & Beyond. We have a pretty large invite list (eek) and already live together so there's only so many things we can register for. A friends of mine got married last May and used Travelersjoy. She said she would HIGHLY recommend it!
