Ice Cream Sunday Bar

Has anyone done this?  If so, how did it turn out?  We are thinking of doing this in lue of cake.  Still not 100% sure.  Any ideas?

Re: Ice Cream Sunday Bar

  • We had a sundae bar sort of as a late night snack, served it about 2 hrs after the tables had been cleared. For us, the guests liked it, but in honesty since we'd already had a meal and cake, we had too much ice cream. Our caterer, Holiday Market, brought 4 gallons of different flavored ice cream and had about 10 toppings, and we had about 1/2 gallon of each left.

If you are doing it in lieu of cake, I'm sure it would be welcome. However, if you guys are still going to be cutting a "sample" cake, your guests might be upset. I personally love cake and our guests did too.

Why are you thinking of doing this instead of cake? Are you finding the cost of cakes too high, or just don't like cake? If it's the price of cakes, you can get a small single layer cake to cut and have Costco sheet cakes which cost $17 each and serve 48 cut in the back room and served to your guests. They are YUMMY if you have never had one.

If you want to do it in addition to cake or other desserts, do it about 3 hrs after the plates have been cleared.,....our guests were not hungry 2 hrs later.

  • Thats a great idea!!! have a small cake made and then use sheet cake in the back. I can confirm costco cakes are TO DIE FOR!!!!

  • That was our other thought, to have cake from Sams Club or Costco in the back, and just our cake to cut.  I love cake!  My fiance doesn't really like it though.  So he doesn't want to spend a ton of money on a big fancy cake.  He loves ice cream though.  If we could, he would want our cake to be an ice cream cake!  lol  I also think people would be disappointed with no cake at all.  I always llook foward to it at a wedding.  The sheet cake idea is probably our best bet!

    Thanks for the ideas!   =)
