Offbeat Reception Venues in and around CLT

Just got engaged, getting married next September and doing the leg work trying to find some cool and affordable wedding venues in and around Charlotte.  Our budget for the whole wedding is looking to be around 15k.  Just trying to get some creative ideas I haven't thought of.  (My fiance has vetoed any hotels and anywhere downtown no matter how nifty).  Ideas?

I'm getting married at Carrigan Farms in Mooresville.

Also, Queens Landing--don't know how $$ but it sure is pretty on the boat.

How far out from Charlotte is your fiance thinking is okay for the venue?

Probably up to an hour away. We live in south Charlotte so basically anywhere in any of the suburbs would be okay (Concord, Huntersville, Matthews, etc).

There are plenty of places in the Charlotte area. I live in the South Charlotte area too. Here are a few places my wedding coordinator gave me when I pick out my venue:

    Elizabeth Manor
    Pine Island Country Club
    Duke Mansion
    The Morehead Inn

There are tons of country clubs in the Charlotte area that are at reasonable rates.

Oh and also the Palmetto Ballroom in Rock Hill is pretty nice too. But its about 25-30 minutes from South Charlotte.

Victorian Crow's Nest is in Monroe.

I'm having mine at Piper Glen CC - definitely would recommend checking it out. :-)  Very budget friendly.

The Ivey in SouthPark is unique and different.  More of an at home feel.

With your budget I would veto Duke Mansion (min. 7 room rental and $10K food budget, not including $3K ballroom rental) - i think my quote was $18k.

Alice Close Dairy Barn (sp?) I heard has a real different look/feel as well.

Good luck and let us know where you end up!

I'm having my reception at the Ranson House in Huntersville, very family friendly owners and it's a beautiful Southern plantation home setting.  If you can keep the guest list down to under 100 you can have the reception inside, which would keep costs down (we have to rent a tent for the yard).  Also, they use caterers who will let you buy your own alcohol, keeping you from paying overhead prices.  Good luck!

No matter where you choose to have the ceremony and reception, keeping your guest list small is going to be the key to keeping costs down - the food and drinks (and cake!) are the biggest portion of the budget.  Booking one site for both events can also save money.  I recommend checking with places outside of the city.  Also, look into neat restaurants if your FI has vetoed hotels.  One reason hotels/restaurants can actually save money is because they already have tables, chairs, linens, china, etc.  I wanted an outdoor, tented wedding, and ended up realizing it would have cost way more than the hotel where we're having our reception (we're getting married in Maine, but the basics are still the same).

I love the Roof with a View idea.  Also checking out some of the old plantations.  the VanLandingham Estate is also gorgeous and historic.  Good luck and congrats!

We're having our reception at Green Rice Gallery in NoDa.  It is very affordable and they let you have your own caterer, etc...  Great place for a smaller reception.  For an affordable ceremony, all of the parks in Mecklenburg County are very affordable.  We are having our ceremony in the rose garden at Independence park and it is only $52/hour.
