Argyle's v Red Sky

Hi ladies! I just found this board yesterday and was so excited! I'm getting married in the OBX in June 2013. We've chosen several of our vendors already but are still undecided on the caterer. At this point, we're between Argyle's and Red Sky. We're making a trip down in a few months to do a tasting at each, but I just wanted to see if you guys had any thoughts on either of these caterers. Thanks for any help!

    Hi!

I'm getting married at the Wild Horse next month. We went with Red Sky because we loved there food and go there every year on vacation. I was so happy with our choice and Eric was so great to work with. He knew the owners of the house and knew more about the house then I even did, which made me so comfortable with them doing everything.  After e-mailing Eric last week i just now was informed he is gone. No one bothered to contact us and tell us, so to say i'm not happy with them is an understatement. The new manager assured me she has been the one there this whole time implementing everything anything so i shouldn't be worried, but i'm not happy with how they didn't bother to inform any of the clients of this huge change.

Lgorm, that's awesome that you're getting married there next month! You'll have to share some pics, I've been trying to get ideas on decorating the house. I'm leaning towards Argyle's just because they seem more affordable than Red Sky. Plus I actually haven't had any trouble getting in contact with Debra (yet) and haven't been very impressed with Jenn of Red Sky. It seems like she always responds with vague, confusing answers.
  • Hi,
Congratulations !!  Wild Horse is beautiful.  I have not been inside, but I have seen it from the outside and online.   What an amazing house.   I got married at the Dream.  We had tastings with Argyles, and Red Sky.  We liked both of their food, but we went with Argyles.  Loved Debra, she was great to work with.   Her food was awesome and it was more traditional which we thought would be more appealing to our guests.  Everyone loved the food.  They are still telling me how good it was, and it's been almost 2 years since our wedding.  Not only was the food awesome, but Debra throws in the cake for free and her cakes are amazing.  Beautiful and delicious, she can make it look however you want she only needs a picture of how you want it to look.  We chose different flavors for each tier, and they were so good.   I am not much of a cake person, but it was beautiful and delicious.   I wish you the best of luck.  It's such an exciting time.   Enjoy it and try not to stress to much.

[QUOTE]Stressmess, I AM a cake person, but it can't be too sweet.  Debra's cakes are SOOO good!  Which flavors did you go with?  We are having the Amaretto Chambord, White Chocolate Key Lime, and Grand Marnier Chocolate cake.

    Hi,
We had the top and bottom tiers Almond Chambord with raspberry filling, and White Chocolate Key Lime with white chocolate filling.  It was so good.  We kept the top tier for our 1st anniversary, but the rest of the cake was pretty much gone.  Everyone loved both flavors.
  • I don't know about Argyle's, but we used Red Skye and the food was really good. Everyone raved about it. And the staff were pros. That was one thing I didn't have to worry about. I worked with Eric and he was great. I did hear that he recently left and RS didn't tell anyone, which is bad form. But I've heard that his replacement seems to have things in order.
  • I must second Maria! We had Red Sky and the food was amazing - many of our guests commented on it. And we had leftovers at the rental house the next day, which everyone was more than happy to dive into! (And there were foods in my fridge that I did NOT try on the wedding day - you may be amazed at how much you miss... it really does go by in a blink! :))
  • Hi!

Our wedding was on the 18th and I have to say I was HIGHLY dissappointed in Red Sky - to the point that I probably would never go back to their restaurant. First I was promised it would not be set up as a buffet but rather as different stations for people to go to, well it was a small little buffet area instead which took about 45 minutes to get all of our guests their food. Second, the food was not nearly as good as the tasting we had with Eric. Half the items were cold by the time we would get it to our tables, same with the appetizers they brought us. The Chef Wes promised I would see him at the wedding and he would make sure everything was running smooth for us, i never once saw him once.

They have definitely gone drastically downhill with Eric leaving and it's really sad to see!
