NWR Speeding ticket, ctd...

If any of you remember my previous 2 posts about this you're probably like, "This is STILL going??" Well the woman at the court FINALLY has some information on my ticket. I guess everyone's back from vacation and back in order after Irene...

In Response to NWR: speeding ticket:
[QUOTE]Quick recap: Was going 50 in a 25 (I thought it was 45 but that was 1/4 miles ahead of me) and got a ticket requiring court appearance.

So she confirmed that my court date was supposed to be tomorrow, but she said it will be rescheduled for the 21st since they never confirmed it until today. I asked her to send me a letter...

In Response to I hate speeding tickets!! :(
[QUOTE]Has anyone had to go to court for a speeding violation before? It was double the limit... I know that's not good... Can they suspend my license??

She also said the judge pretty much always suspends your license if you go double the speed limit... but she recommended that I plead "Not Guilty," and then I would have another court date and I think she said a prosecutor would then help me negotiate? Anyone familiar with this? help... :( TIA

I think the situation depends on the town you got the ticket in. I got a speeding ticket for going 70 in a 50 (I was really going 80 but the cop felt bad) and when I went to court the prosecutor said I could pay $x.xx and have no points no suspension or $x.x and have some points or $x and take a lot of points. All I had to do was go ion front of the judge with the prosecutor and he took care of it. I know A LOT of people who have gotten pulled over for speeding and this has usually been the case.

If you were advised that the judge is tough, i would try to speak with an attorney (or when you have your 1st court date, the prosecutor)  if you really need your license.

Thanks for the advice :) I remember people saying in My previous posts that I would get to talk to the prosecutor prior to trial. I know my mom has a good lawyer but was trying not to get her involved (lots of other stuff on my mom's plate right now). I wish someone could come with me to chat with someone from the court again before the trial, I'm so not good at this stuff. It's Bound Brook btw. Cops has a rep for being real sticklers there (and apparently the judge too)

Yes, you need to plead not guilty, and talk to the prosecutor.

I got a ticket for doing 42 in a 25. I went to court pleaded not guilty and talked to the prosecutor which led to me paying $500.00 and walking out with my license and no points.
