See..that is why I keep my plans to myself. When people ask What's your colors? Where are you getting this from? And what are you doing about that? And blah, blah blah - I say, you know what, FI and I aren't sure yet, we are exploring ideas. And we leave it at that. I also sent a message out there to my fam through my gossiping a$$ cousins that "if you aint' contributing a dime to my wedding fund, keep your comments, opinions and suggestions to yourself". Once I made that smart a$$ remark in front of my immature cousins, that message spread like wild flowers. LOL So just don't let these people get to you and send that message out there subliminally..LOL

I am learning early to keep my plans to myself. We might even have to push the date back since we are paying for it on our own. My mom is like: No don't do that.

However she or my dad couldn't tell me if (and how much) they can help out , and I can't go booking things based on "we should be able to give you a gift".

    Sorry mom but WTF.

I'm actually glad to be saving up and paying on our own. That way my first response to any suggestions will be "and how will you be paying for this" with the straightest face.

SMH @ the gift that keeps on giving: advice... from those who ain't paid a dime on nada.

Ive learned that if you just say to people, "pay for it", eventually they stop sharing their opinions. Smile

Dont let them stress you. People will always have something to say, ignore them and keep doing what your doing.

I love Ksturgis' advice.  If you ask people to pay for it they'll shut up quick.  I am sorry that this is happening to you.  Just put your foot down and tell these people that if they don't like it they can kick rocks!

I am like a lot of these ladies on here who post, I keep my wedding plans to myself. I give limited information on EVERYTHING! Like you, me and FI are paying for this wedding. The last thing I want to hear is unsolicitated advice or information. So I shut all that down.. I don't share or show anything related to my wedding. I like it that way. If the person was invited they will see at the wedding or wait until I post pics. That works for me.

Don't let that stuff stress you out. You have a wedding to plan. People are going to be people. You can't change that.

    Hi Ladies!
I normally just read the posts (and sometimes I may occasionally post comments), but I just had to post to this one! My fiance and I were just discussing this issue. I knew from the beginning that I would not be sharing much info with my family or his, unless they ask. I do this to cut down on suggestions or input for the wedding. I feel once I open that door then it would be hard to close, especially with his mom. No one has dared to ask me how much we paid for things, and to save their face, I hope they don't ask bc IT'S NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS! I noticed how some people turn their noses to the air if you tell them how much $$$ was spent on an item. "Girl, I wouldn't pay that much! I know someone that can do that for less!"
I feel they should just come and enjoy the day. They're not paying for anything so there's no need for their input!
