"Plus Sized" dresses

I'm going dress shopping on Friday. I have been before at a boutique in Atlanta and at David's. I had some luck in Atl, but David's was no good b/c all the dresses were too short for me (I'm 6') and they told me that it could change the look of the dress if it were lengthened and my selection was limited because they could only get extra length on some dresses.

I wear a size 16, and i'm worried about my ability to be able to try on dresses. I just would like to be able to atleast put them on my body to get an idea of how they would look. They don't have to fit to a T, I know that will not happen. Does anyone know of a salon that carries larger samples? Or is anyone a similar size that has any tips for me?

Thanks!

I accompanied a friend that was close in size and height to you and she had a lot of luck at Bustles and Bows. They have extenders in the back of all their dresses, so they can at least give you an idea of what they look like.

Southern Bridal in Mandeville uses extenders in their dresses as well.

I am 5'9 & a size 16 - Pearl's Place (yes, I know all the bad things on the board about them) had a TON that were HUGE! I actually ended switching my dress with the sample right before the wedding because I gained some last minute stress weight :(

Point of the story - Pearl's has a ton of dresses 12+ (usually like 16)

Oh my goodness! I definitely suggest taking an afternoon and driving out to the Alfred Angelo store in Baton Rouge. It's a wee bit of a hike but they are just like DB in that they have a ton of styles on hand. I have found their quality to be FAR nicer than DB and the prices are much more reasonable than you would find in a boutique store. You can check out their website in advance so that you have some ideas of what they have but the staff has been really helpful with me. I would recommend, though, if you get a dress that you want to buy a crinoline for, don't get the crinoline at Alfred Angelo. They only have the drawstring ones at Alfred Angelo and I think the DB elastic waist ones sit much prettier.

    Good luck!!

Thanks guys! I plan to go to Pearls I think to start off. It is go good to know that I have options! I've been there for BM dresses and with my cousin a few years ago so I know a little what to expect. I don't think it was that. I don't find David's all that much better on service.

I definitely second the suggestion to head to an Alfred Angelo store.  I tried on my dresses at the one in Little Rock, but they had no problem finding enough dresses in plus sizes.  In fact, when I was there all 4 of the brides trying on dresses were plus sizes and none of us had any trouble finding dresses to try on.  And the staff were great to work with.  I also agree that the quality at Alfred Angelo is better than that at David's Bridal.
