Snarky Brides

I can't believe how emotional I am over this.

My mom has been calling me every day and reading me the RSVPs and one she got today pretty much has left me just shattered.

When my parents were on their honeymoon, they met a couple (probably old enough to be their parents, maybe a little younger) that they got along really well with.  The couple sent champagne to my parent's hotel room and I know they went to dinner together a couple times.  At the end of their trip they exchanged addresses.

I don't think my parents have ever seen this couple again - but they have always, always kept in touch.  They remembered every anniversary.  Their first names were Jim and Diane.  My sisters and I all have pictures taken of us as newborns in this white crocheted bunting - Diane made it.  She sent us gifts on our birthdays when we were little, and my parents always sent them graduation notices, and last year sent them a wedding invitation to my sister's wedding.  They got an invitation to mine too.

So this is already getting long - anyway.  Jim sent the RSVP and on the back wrote "If it were up to Diane, we would definitely come."  My mom had gotten an email from him the other day - Diane fell in their kitchen several weeks ago and hit her head and died of a brain injury.  She said in his email he explained how lost he was and how much of a mess his life is now without her after being married to his sweetheart for 54 years.

I'm just crying right now at my desk at work and I've never even met these people - but they were special to my parents, and obviously we were all special them.  I wish I could go down to Florida where he lives and just hug him.

  • Oh my gosh. That is just heart breaking. I'm so sorry.

  • Aw AATB I'm so sorry.  Just because you haven't met them doesn't mean they weren't important in your life and how you grew up.  Its a sad story and I think crying and being upset is a perfectly normal reaction.  <<hugs>>
  • That is so sad.  This must be so hard for him.
  • Oh, AATB, that's terrible.  So sad.  Clearly, they were close family friends, whether you saw them or not, and that's such a sad loss.

I feel so bad for that guy--how do you pick up after so long together?
  • aww, I got chills reading this! I am sorry to hear about this loss. It sounds like your family and his had a very close and special bond. <<hugs>>

  • Aww, I'm sorry to hear that AATB. They seem like very special people. You are lucky to have had them in your life, in one way or another.

    ((hugs))
  • I'm sorry AATB, it seems your family was close regardless of how many times you have seen them. I cant even imagine being with someone for that many years and losing them like that.

  • stories like this make me so incredibly sad! I hate the idea of growing old with someone and then losing them. I know it's inevitable, but sheesh...I don't even want to think about when that will happen to us...

That settles it. We're becoming immortal.

  • This made me cry. I am such a weeper lately, its becoming ridiculous.

    I'm sorry girl. :(
  • That's so sad; the poor guy.  Would it be possible for your parents to visit him sometime?

  • Awwwww AATB, Sweetie I am so sorry. It just goes to show that meeting someone does not mean that they can't be close to your hear. Is there no way that he will still come? Oh my goodness. I have tears in my eyes too.

I am praying for your family and Jim.

And the whole time, my future husband was in the room...... image image
  • Aw, that's really sad. Sorry to hear about that, AATB. I think that even if you haven't met them, they are/were still a part of your lives so you still feel the loss. I'd say it's perfectly normal to be upset even never having met them in person.

And I have also told H he is not allowed to die first and that we are going together. I've also told Whisky the same thing.
  • Thank you all so much girls :) I've appreciated this a lot.

Seshat I would not be surprised if Whisky outlived all of us - he's pretty bad ass :)

Whisky and Cheddar could get a condo together, sit on the porch like grumpy old men, and meow "get off my lawn!".
