Explaining Job Woes

So I had a solid, long term job when my FH and I got engaged back at Christmas.  In May, I found out suddenly that my organization was out of money and I was cut as part of big layoffs.  I was able to switch to a temp job immediately, but my new boss told me a week ago that when I leave for my wedding next week, my job will not be here when I get back.

My worry is, what do I say to all my family and friends at the wedding when they ask where I'm working or what I'm doing now?  I don't want to say I'm unemployed, or I've lost 2 jobs in less that 4 months.  I know I shouldn't be ashamed of being laid-off in these situations, but it seems like such an awkward place to be in suddenly when getting married.  I also don't know what to put in the newspaper wedding announcement.

  • agreed with DJ.  Not one guest asked my about my job at the wedding festivities.

Enjoy your day, and you can get back to the job hunting afterwards.
  • What DJ said.

And if your nosy Aunt Bertha does ask what you're doing these days just say "Oh, today I'm getting married, how did you like the cake?" if you're not comfortable saying you've been laid off.
  • Go with something vague, like "Oh, you know, still figuring things out."  That will usually shut people up.
