Bora Bora / Moorea

We are planning on going to Bora Bora and Moorea for our honeymoon.  We will stay in Tahiti 2 nights, but have the option to only stay 1 night.  Is shopping for souveniers to much $$$ on the other islands or should we stay in Tahiti 2 nights.  Anyone ever been?

Re: Bora Bora / Moorea

  • Personally, I wasn't all that thrilled with Tahiti as a whole. I'd opt for one night. It's probably going to have more shopping than some of the other islands, but a LOT of it is just pearl shops.

As far as prices go, Tahiti was pretty equivalent compared to Bora Bora and Moorea.

  • I'm so jealous.  Bora Bora is probably my dream HM, but since we are paying for our own wedding, we can't quite afford to get there yet.  We'll probably do it as an anniversary trip soon, but it looks absolutely beautiful.  We would also probably skip Tahiti altogether though.

  • I don't think a converter is needed at most of the 4* and up resorts. Doublecheck on tripadvisor...
  • Just came back from Bora Bora.

Bring a converter.  They're like, $10, and it will save you so much hassel.

If you're flying all the way down there, def. visit the smaller islands because they're going to be more what you're looking for (unless you're just going to get your passport stamped and burn money) because the big island is hopelessly built up.

Everything is expensive down there.  It does not matter what island you are on.  We read somewhere to expect New York prices.  As a former Manhattan dweller, I thought I knew what to expect.  New York prices on steroids.  $18 cocktails.  Keep that in mind.

Have so much fun.  We had such a great time in Bora Bora and I wish I could go back right now.

  • 2 glorious weeks and we stayed in and around Bora Bora the whole time except for a brief few hours in Tahiti on the way in and on the way out.  Tahiti was so built up, I'm really glad we opted to go further out, even though it meant getting on a plane again after being on one for 8 hours.
