Do you take your ring off when you exercise?

I've been wearing my ring to my zumba classes and when I go out for a jog.  I am concerned that I'm somehow damaging it with my sweat or shaking loose my diamonds with my arm movements.

What's your opnion?

Re: Do you take your ring off when you exercise?

  • my ring is pretty tight I leave it on for zumba, running, and all that jazz.  I try to take it off when I go weightlifting, but the last couple times I forget my necklace (and I'm not about to leave it in the locker room!), so I just wore it anyways.

I doubt you can shake the diamond out - but maybe I'm just optimistic

  • I take mine off but only because my fingers tend to swell when I do cardio...and I don't want it digging into me when I'm using the universal machine to do weights.

  • OMG...Champagne, your cat looks just like my cat Tatiana.

No, I don't take my ring off when I excercise.  I only take it off when I shower, at night, and before I put lotion on my hands.

  • i only take it off for weights and showering...i ran in high school competively and always wore my rings and never lost one...
  • Nope...

However, I will take it off if it is incredibly hot and humid outside and I'll be out there for awhile.  My fingers swell horribly in those conditions.  One day after a summer walk, I couldn't get the ring over my knuckle.  I had visions of doctors cutting the band to get the ring off because I had no circulation in my finger.  That's a bit extreme on my part, admittedly.
  • I take mine off when I shower and sometimes sleep. I usually keep it on for running, but when I'm lifting weights I take it off.

  • In the gym, I always take my ring off and lock it in a locker for cardio and weights.

When I run outside, half the time I take it off and leave it at home. The other times, I switch it to my middle finger and go running.

The one time I left it on and went to my cardio kickboxing class, it almost flew off a couple times because of the sweat.  Ick.

  • I only take mine off to lift weights, and that's only because my ring is platinum and scratches like crazy.
  • I work out at home, instead of the gym. I never take my ring off to work out. But it's also a wee bit too small, so it doesn't come off my finger easily.

  • My ring is a little loose, so I take it off for the gym- but I leave it at home, never in a locker! I don't take it off for anything else but putting lotion on, and I just put it right back on after.

The necklace idea is a great one for the gym, def better than a locker (I have known 2 people to have their lockers robbed at different gyms- some locks are easier to open I guess).
  • Yup. I always take it off when I exercise. The diamond can certainly get knocked loose from the prongs during exercise and everyday wear and tear.

You should also get the stone checked every 6 months to make sure it is securely in place.  I've had mine since September and I had to get it tightened last week :) Diamonds can fall out of settings.
  • i take mine off as soon as i get home from work and only put it on if we go out otherwise im scared im going to lose it.
  • My ring comes off:
when I sleep, my fingers swell and it hurts
when I cook, don't want that stuff buried in my setting
when I do anything like painting
when I clean, don't want harsh chemicals messing it up.

  • umm, the only exercise I do is play DDR, and I don't take my ring off for it.  I take it off when I'm putting on lotion or showering.

    what is zumba?

  • I don't really exercise. :( sigh
  • I leave mine on when I'm running and when I was doing a weights DVD in my living room. I don't really lift that much at the gym or I'd probably take it off.

I take it off to shower and to do dishes ... but I'm moving in with the fiance and he has a dishwasher, so those days are coming to an end. Laughing
  • I take mine off when at the gym (I have to leave it in the locker because I go right after work, but I have an old-school lock that would be hard to break in to).

Otherwise it's pretty much always on. Is it bad to shower with it on?

  • I never take my ring off. It fits well enough that it doesn't come off when wet. Additionally, I have a drain guard in the shower/tub so even if it did some how slip off in the shower it wouldn't go anywhere. I usually just run and do cardio - it just rolls around my finger but never goes past my knuckle.
Well, I take that back, I did take it off once - to have it sized correctly. Other than that, it never comes off.
  • I never take mine off. Ever. (It fits really well.) FI has taken it off a couple of times to move it in the light and see it sparkle, but the only time I took it off was when I was trying on wedding bands in a jewelry store.

My mom's rings are white gold, too, and she does the same thing. She gets it re-pronged every 10 years or so, and she's pretty rough on her rings (dishes, handling lots of stones outside in the garden, building rock walls with no work gloves, etc.)! So I figure, get an insurance policy on it and live your life. :)

  • I always take my ring off when I go to the gym.  I don't want to lose it!  I also take it off when I go to bed because apparently I roll around a lot and keep hitting it on the bed frame :P
  • I pretty much only take my ring off when I am cleaning with harsh chemicals.  I just read somewhere that they can damage the metal, depending on what it is.

I don't like to take it off because I worry more about misplacing it or it falling down a drain or something (it fits my finger perfectly-not too snug, not too loose, even when I'm hot or cold!).

I'll probably wear it camping/hiking, etc, but wouln't wear it rock climbing.  No worries about exercising, though!

  • I pretty much never take it off.  I love having it on and feel naked without it, so the only times I have taken it off are to get it cleaned and a couple times when I was painting a house so I wouldn't get paint stuck somewhere in the setting.  I leave it on to shower and workout.  If I were a lotion-wearer, I'd probably take it off then too but I'm not.
  • I never take mine off. I wear it cleaning, cooking, showering, working out, anything. When I am outside in the yard I wear yard gloves so it wont get dirty. Mine fits really well, but ultimately I believe that the ring is more than just jewelery. I don't feel that it is an optional piece to wear or not wear. Nor do I believe in getting your ring redone.... blah blah blah.... I think that the ring is significant of where one started in their relationship and shouldn't be about the size of the stone or the look of it. An engagement ring is a symbol of never ending love... not money wealth etc....

Also, when I got my ring I specifically told the jeweler when he made it that i will rarely take it off and whatever he makes me will need to be of the type of quality that can live up to my lifestyle...

  •   I only take mine off before I put lotion on, and before I get in the shower. I do feel naked without it.
