Wayne County Marriage License Question

Hello ladies! I have been seriously neglecting TK for the past few months as DIY for the wedding has taken over my life :( But I'm back for a little while before my wedding, just under 6 weeks left! I have a question for Wayne County knotties or anyone else who may have some advice. Wayne County has a 3 day waiting period from time of application to issuance of marriage license. You can apply for a waiver of the waiting period to have the marriage license issued the same day if you apply downtown rather than the satellite offices. Has anyone done this? I am hoping to get it done sooner but with all my projects at work, I am having a hard time getting time off work. I'm getting married on a Saturday, and wondering if getting the license the Thursday before, if it is cutting it too close? My FSIL/FBIL did it for their wedding with no troubles, but I am very anxious about it. Also, if you applied downtown, how long was the wait to apply?

Thank you in advance :)

Re: Wayne County Marriage License Question

  • Look online, I got  my license through oakland county but I was able to send the application via online and pick it up two days later. So I didn't rush it, but we only had to make one trip and the online application is super quick.
  • We plan to do it all in one day. Im pretty sure if you pay the extra and go downtown they will have it ready for you. I think we are going to go on Friday, so I will let ya know.

  • I think other knotties have done the rush fee and not had an issue. I feel like Larzhope was one?

I got married in Wayne, and didn't do the rush. Frankly, getting the license wasn't that hard. I was lucky that I worked near one of the satellite offices, so I just ran over on my lunch hour. There weren't any lines and I had my application already filled out, so it was a breeze.

  • I am going to apply for my license at one of the satellite offices and I have both of our birth certificates.  Do I need my FI's driver's license too or just mine?  I am the Wayne County resident and he is in Livingston County.  Can his driver's license be a photocopy or do I need the original.  I found conflicting information on the Wayne County website.

  • I got married in Detroit, but my DH and I live in Kansas, so putting in the application for our wedding license with 3 days lead time was not an option.  But when we got down there, everyone else was also filing for a wedding license with the rush fee (there were 10 other couples that did the same thing).  It's totally worth the extra $5.
I'd also recommend just going downtown, though.  You never know what they're going to tell you at a satelite office. It'll take you a couple hours but, like I said, it's totally worth it to have to worry off your list. Bring both drivers licenses with you, just to be safe
