First Meeting with a Florist - Budget

I am meeting with a florist this weekend to discuss the flowers for my wedding. I've read online that you should look at spending between 8-10% of your overall wedding budget on flowers. I was looking for ideas from brides in the Boston area of what they are spending total in flowers. I will need to get 1 bouquet, 5 BM bouquets, 2 corsages (MOB, MOG), 9 bouts, centerpieces (TBD - probably need between 18-20). Any insight is much appreciated :)

Re: First Meeting with a Florist - Budget

  • We are not spending 8-10%...more like 5% ...to give you some rough estimates, here is how our florist quoted us:
    -bouquet - $200
    -BM bouquets - $65/each
    - Boutineers - $15/each
    - Centerpieces (short, nothing elaborate but full and colorful) - $85/each
    - Aisle runner - $125

Our total budget was on out florist's "low-end" but I don't think we are cheaping out at all! We'll have lots of peonies, roses, lillies, etc. We just aren't going over the top. I would say not to skimp out on your bouquet, as it will be photographed more than any other "thing" at the wedding. Good luck!

  • Flowers are probably around 4.5% of our budget.  Now, it is a small wedding (few centerpieces) and no wedding party (so 1 bouquet.)  Our pricing is roughly:
    Bride Bouquet - $160
    Bout - $12
    Centerpieces - $55 each
  • One of the first questions you should ask is if the florist has a minimum requirement because a lot of the ones I contacted would not work with any one spending less than $1500.  It can save you a lot of frustration if you find this out in the beginning.
  • we planning on spending no more than 1000 for flowers and even that is over doing it - in my eyes! One way you could try to save money is going to your local supermarket that has a florist most of the time you can get an amazing deal :-) We are going to get a few estimates from florists then check out the supermarkets. Might be a little ghetto in some peoples eyes but if we can save money & still get good quality then I am all for it. As much as I'd LOVE to have super expensive flowers they really only need to look pretty and last 8 hours lol.
  • Also keep in mind the flowers that you use will effect your budget.  Try to use in season flowers to keep costs down.
  • I used a florist named Marina Kole, she was awesome. A trick I used to save on flower costs was that every other table had a candle centerpiece (glass bowl filled with water and floating candles- cost about $10 each). It looked really nice and cut the cost of centerpieces almost in half.

  • I got a price quote from florists I met with on the first meeting.   I can tell you that we're spending about 10% of our overall cost on flowers and that's just on ceremony flowers.   But we also chose a florist who will deliver to our location, arrange everything, touch up bouquets if necessary, pin all of our corsages etc.

We are paying around $1500 for:

    1 Bridal Bouquet
    3 Bridesmaids Bouquets
    A Centerpiece for the Altar
    6 Boutineres (sp?)
    2 Corsages
And a few other pieces I believe.

To include centerpieces on all of our reception tables would have likely been an additional $1000-$1300 or so.  One budget recommendation our florist gave was to only do centerpieces every other table.  She also recommended putting a vase on the sweetheart table and using my bouquet as the show piece on that table rather than simply tucking it aside.   We opted to do our own centerpieces for cost purposes, but both were good suggestions!

    I hope this helps.
