Bridesmaid Doesn't Have A Dress, What to do?

Okay so my wedding is on October 6, less than a month away, I got a message last night from my bridesmaid (who is also my cousin) saying that the store had misplaced her order and so she doesn't have a dress. She said that there are around 10 stores in her area that carry the same dress and hopes she'll be able to buy a red one off the rack. She is freaking out though because she's not sure if she'll be able to find one.

I dont know what happened, all my other bridesmaids ordered from the store and got their dresses. It's not her fault, so I don't want to kick her out of the party just because the store didn't get her order (she got refunded by the way).

I was thinking I could just tell her to find a similiar dress in red, but the problem is, all the other bridesmaids will be wearing the same dress, but in different colors: Blue, Green, Yellow, and she is supposed to be Red. I'm a little worried it would look odd.

What would you do? Do you think picking a similiar dress would be okay?

Re: Bridesmaid Doesn't Have A Dress, What to do?

  • what other possible option do you have?

  • Call around and see if she can find the dress in red.  If there is another color you would consider have her check that too.  I'd also call around your area and check online (ebay).

If you can't find anything then looks like she'll either be in a diffirent dress or she'll be out of the wedding.

<div>Really?  Just really.  You've obviously already had the thought of kicking her out of the party b/c she won't have the dress.  </div><div>

    <div>No I haven't, I said I didn't want to kick her out because she doesn't have a dress, I'm looking for a back up plan. </div><div>
</div><div>My maid of honor suggests maybe finding a similiar dress and then maybe add a sash that has the flowers and beading like on the other dresses. </div><div>
</div><div>I'll do some looking around on ebay.</div>
  • If it helps, the dress I need is this one, and in red:
    Da Vinci Bridesmaid 60012

It has to be red since the colors are blue, green, yellow, and red.
  • Is it necessary for the bridal party ot look like a rainbow? How about seeing if she can get the dress in a different color.
  • Like 6 said, start calling around to see if you can find the dress in your color.  Also, since you are in the twin cities, don't forget to check the David's in Rochester and St. Cloud.  Those are not too far of a drive to get the right dress.  (I am assuming it's from David's Bridal because they are the only store that would have that many locations in your area.)

<div>Well those are the wedding colors, I'm not sure what other color would go, besides black, without standing out. The whole wedding theme is blue, green, yellow, and red. If she wore purple, it would stand out. </div><div>
</div><div>I don't like the idea of black, but that might be plan b</div>

<div>Oh, no, my cousin lives in St Louis, MO. Me and my maid of honor picked the dress at the Wedding Shoppe. It's not from David's Bridal. </div>
  • If the shop screwed up, I don't understand why they can't help hunt one down for her.

<div>Yeah, I don't know, I feel like they should do more than just refund her. I'm not having much luck so far. One store had it in black, so I'm going to keep that in mind incase that's our last resort. </div>
  • I found this site that offers a super rush of 8-12 days. Does anyone know how trustworthy it is?

  • I really don't think purple will stand out as much as you think.  I think she should look for the red, but if she finds another color, go for it.

Or she could order the dress online and pay the super rush delivery fee.  :/

  • if she has an order confirmation slip/receipt/some proof of her order from the store, then she needs to be in the store, taking to the manager, having them expedite shipping at their cost to get her the dress within the week. (to allow enough time to alter /clean)

I don't understand why this is so difficult, unless she has no proof of the order. (and if she doesn't i doubt they would have given her a refund)

<div>Well she took the refund already. She ordered the dress online, which might have been why it got misplace. My other bridesmaids called the store. I'm not going to blame her though and she lives in another state so she can't go to the store. </div><div>
</div><div>I wasn't in on the phone conversation so I have no idea what really happened. All I know is I need to find her a dress!</div>
  • I found a few sites that do super rush orders.

I'm not sure how trustworthy they are, but I think they will be plan B if she can't find one locally. One offers a 3 day rush, I have no idea how they can do that!

Also I talked to someone for the first link and they said their dresses are handmade, so it might not match? At this point I don't care as long as it's close, but aren't all bridesmaid dresses hand made? Seems silly to say that it might not match....
  • If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Most of the sites you've listed are knock-offs, I'm pretty sure. Go over to the Attire and Accessories board and you'll get a lot of feedback on why you shouldn't use those. You have no idea if they'll get there on time, and likely they use pictures of the dress from the designer website and not of their own work. It's a bad idea, because then you've put time, energy, and money into another dress that won't work out and will have to start from scratch again.

I would try to find one pre-owned on eBay or one of the pre-owned websites. At least then you'll know it's the actual dress and can deal with someone through PayPal instead of your money probably never being seen again.

For the record, taking the refund was not the best thing to do. If she couldn't be at the store, you should have gone and explained to them that she ordered the dress and paid for it, so if their online ordering system messed up, it was their responsibility to fix it. Or at least to help you call around, they might have a better idea of who the other retailers are that might be able to help you.

<div>Well she didn't give me the chance to she just told me this last night so I didn't have the oppurtunity to go to the store at all. What's done is done so there is no point in thinking about what should have been done. Like I said, I have no idea if the store helped her not, since I was not a part of that conversation. I only know what she texted me. </div><div>
</div><div>Hopefully she'll find one in her area and it won't be a problem. I looked on ebay, but there was only a bright pink dress available. I also tried the FB marketplace, but nothing there. Does anyone know of any other sites that sell pre owned dresses?</div>
  • so wait, you haven't tried contacting the store at all to raise a little hell?

no one did? you all are just taking it and saying, "oh well"? no one is putting any pressur eon the store to fix their mistake?

and sorry if i missed this, but you have bridesmaids wearing dresses in blue, green, yellow and red?
  • ok, i see she took a refund already. well, then.

Yeah, pretty sure no one will notice. I know I wouldn't be like 'ohhhh, that one's wearing purple, I don't see any other purple here!!' I think that you'd probably be the only one who really cares.

  • Well problem solved she got a dress in red
