list for DJ????

is anyone else writing a list of songs for the DJ to play throughout the night?  If so, would you mind shaing?

Re: list for DJ????

  • Our DJ gave us a sheet to fill out with our specific requests... It includes the ceremony songs, bridal intros, what to play during dinner, what not to play ever, etc... I'd ask your DJ if they have anything for you to just fill in the blanks :o)

  • because of my very small budget (most women spend on their dresses what my entire wedding budget is) I got a dj that is only 150 unlimited.  I just have this sinking feeling that he is going to need a lot of direction in order to play what FI and I like, not music of 100 years ago lol
  • We picked our slow songs, and gave genres with sample artists for our preferred dinner and dance music.  Our biggest list is our Do Not Play list.

  • This might help as a guideline... there is a wedding dj sheet to print and fill out... and it gives some tips for working with your DJ..

  • DJ called me yesterday and 1) didn't remember my name 2) didn't remember the location 3) didn't remember if I'd mailed a depost.  YIKES.  I told him the first song/father-daughter and mother son songs as well as bridal party entrance song...then told him we had some people who like to jitterbug, and FI and I want a lot of modern dance stuff to keep people up and on their feet...but none of the vulger stuff that is out there these days.....sorry if I offend anyone but i will NOT be having music about whips and chains or celebrating getting so drunk you black out (and was APPALED when I found out they played those songs at high school prom).  I"m not a prude or fuddy duddy by any means, just think we as a socitey should try to hold on to SOME sort of moral fibers =D.  Anyway...sorry, got off track.  IFI wants to simply give him a list of 100 songs and say these are the songs we want played.  Who has time for that?  And I don't want the guests to not get to hear what they want too.  I so wish I could have gotten the DJ I fell in love with, but he was like $1000 for 3 hours

Wow there is a photographer checklist too. That's exactly what I needed. Thanks for the link!
  • Oh yes, My mom typed it out in a word document...I gave songs, she gave songs, my FI gave songs..He told us to pick out our garter toss, bouquet toss, cake cutting, first dances, intro songs...we have a broad variety of music! 80's, r&b, rock, top 40 stuff..He said to think of 50 songs so we have added as we have heard them...I will try to share some later after I look at it..My Mom even went in somehow and found 2 songs from 87, my year of birth and 2 songs from 88, my FI year of birth...I am gonna check that site out when I have time because I think it would be nice to have a photographer checklist also!

  • student...we're having some DJ issues ourselves.
I really wanted a DJ that I had met with at a few bridal shows, but I just couldn't swing the $1250 fee.  I know that's probably average, but crazy to me!  FI's BIL knew a guy through his brief employment as a DJ and he called us to see if we still needed a DJ.  FI was taking care of all these arrangements and when we went to meet with him--same DJ!!  However, since then (last August), we've been playing phone tag and I still have no contract confirming our deeply discounted "friends and family" price.  Whenever we call, he assures us the date is still ours and that he remembers the pricing, but I would really like to make sure all the other details are in writing, too!  It's a bit off putting to have to track down him down, but not nearly as bad as it would be if we were paying full price!
  • i agree.....the fee's are INSANE. Our DJ has been doing this for 220 years he says (so why so cheap???) so I just have to try to let go.  This wedding has made me a micro-manager and I'm not really liking it, but dancing and having fun is SOOOOOOOOO important to my FI and I.  If the cake melted, the food was just average and I tripped in my dress we'd still concider the night a success as long as the dj is awesome., <sigh>  stressing.

HOwever....it's SO COOL you got the one you wanted at a cheaper price!   Congratulations

We are trying to ban any songs that will induce stripping and vulgar dancing. I'm not a prude, but I'd rather not see my future family stripping down to their skivvies on the dance floor!!  I'd also rather not see any adults grinding to the floor like I have at other weddings, it was just weird and my BFF and I still have flashbacks!!
