Where should I be at six months out?

In less than two weeks, our wedding will officially be just six months away!!!  I am wondering where we should be in terms of planning.

What we already have is a photographer and DJ which I would assume are the two biggest things to have set.  What we are looking to book very soon is an officiant and a ceremony musician.  Save the dates went out back last month and we plan on printing our own invitations a few months before the wedding (we already have the paper and enevelopes for that)  Oh, my dress is all set, too... it should be coming in by June.  We don't need a cake because that is included in our venue package.  We also have a hotel block and the night of the wedding my new husband and I will be staying at the venue (also included in the package)

As far as flowers we are going to try to do as much DIY with that as possible.  And I also don't plan on registering for gifts since the wedding is small and we are living in an apartment.  A custom made wedding band is currently being made, so as soon as that is done it will be purchased.

Anything I am missing?  Oh, centerpieces I am DIY.  Am I behind at all??  Any feedback/suggestions are most greatly appreciated! Smile

Engagement pictures will be taken in the spring, probably around May/June.
  • I feel like i'm right where you are as well. Flowers are next on our list and one of my girlfriends is starting an event planning business, so she's doing my center pieces at cost to build her portfolio. Glad to get that off of my plate! :)
I find the Knot's checklist a bit of a headache. It makes me think of some things that are not even related to our day, and it just stresses me when i look at it! I say you're right on point.
  • You're sitting pretty, as far as I'm concerned. Great job! I need to catch up!
  • futureMrsR - i couldn't agree with you more. the knot's timeline STRESSES me out! i try to look at it, just because i know there are things i'm forgetting but i still dont like it haha
  • My only concern for you is that you send STDs without confirming an officiant; they can be hard to find/reserve and it's usually a top priority (of course this depends on your area). I'd get on it right away just to be safe.
If you are doing a lot DIY, I'd make a list, price things out and start creating! You never know how long it will take and you may require shipments that could delay the process too.
Other than that I think you're doing well :)
    I take it you're another Sept 15th bride?!? ;)

This is exactly what I was going to point out.  The party and traditions are great but at the end of the day the #1 thing you need is someone to make it official.  I would do this first and foremost.

From there I'd do WP attire if you have a WP.  Then worry about your DIY projects.
  • Shaina- we are at the same place in our planning! I, too, haven't been able to pin down a pastor yet and it's stressing me out. We were originally going to have my fiance's pastor growing up do it until his niece got engaged and he had to bow out. Now we're hunting out another family friend but it is taking way more time than I thought. I agree with the other ladies about getting on that first and foremost, and then bridal party attire (because that's my plan too haha).

In addition to what everyone else has already pointed out, I would also say that if you are planning on having a honeymoon, I would get that booked soon. With the way gas prices have been, if there is a flight involved, it might be best to book asap. Just a thought. :)
  • It is actually a Thursday wedding, so to be honest I don't think any of the oficiants will already be booked.
  • I am a Sept. 13th bride, we chose a Thursday due to cost.  We are saving the big honey moon for our first Anniversary, and will just be doing a mini moon directly after the wedding.

I do have a wedding party, it is small just two maids of honor since I have two best friends.  We decided on a color that we like and the girls tried on a few styles.  We also picked out shoes that they both love.

I agree, I use the knot check list but it is does drive me crazy sometimes.
