Re: For Fun: Baby Names!

  • I love baby names too :)  FI and I both have the name Philip in our families, it will probably end up as a first or middle name for a boy.  Generally boys names we agree on.

Girls names we don't agree on.  Several of our friends have had baby girls recently, and the names I like FI doesn't.  Like Alaina - I think it's pretty, FI doesn't like it.  And I don't really like (or have relatives with the names) FI likes.  I have lots of cousins, who apparently have all of FI's favorite names.  This could  be a problem....

We talked about baby names before we were even engaged, but now that we're TTC, we've solidified the list, and we've decided that we're not naming the baby until after they're born.  Mom changed her mind with 2/3 of our names, and I inherited her decision making skills.  But, here's the list:

    Jesse Melchizedek
    Ezra David
    Paul Rowan (after FIL)
    Malachi James

    Naomi Grace
    Chloe Faith
    Miriam Hope
    Haddasah Joy
  • Nora, Willow, Zoey and Rebekah are my favorite girl names. And I like Owen for a boy.

H likes Rebekah and Zoey. He hasn't found any boy names he likes.

  • I've always wanted to name my daughter Logan, but who knows if that will come to be. FI likes Abigail (because it means father's delight) but I don't really like it. Our son will probably have James for a middle name after my bro.

We don't agree on ANY names, and I think about them all the time. I'm in zero hurry to have kids, but it's fun to think of names.

  • As an Orthodox Christian, I can only give saint names.  Out of those, I'd like to call my girl Anna or Isabella.  If a boy, then Gabriel.  I also like Lucas, but that's my husband's name.  I'm also thinking of first names that sound good with our last name.
  • I would like Jude but FI says No.... I named my first child after a Beatle and a movie star - Harrison ...i want something equally as unique for another name but he would like his name sake of Peter ... So i'm gonna go with Peter John [ john is my grandfathers name and also another beatle and of course and bible name] ...

Paul Joseph is the other boy name.. Family names / biblical name and another Beatle and such ... yes i'm a lil silly about that

Girls... Well I like the name Lacey but FI does not . I also like Alice but he says it's "too old" ... So we may compromise with Alicia ... I also like Abbey but he has a cousin named that so I'm not sure... Alice is a family name from my Great Aunt Alice who was just a really huge inspiration to me growing up .

  • This is the perfect post for me. I LOVE thinking about baby names. We think we want to name all of our kids K names or the hard C sound because it sounds good with our last name. I like names that I either made up, or changed the spelling of, or are very uncommon. I remember having three other Ashleys in my classes in high school and I want our kids to have truly unique names. When we do get pregnant, we don't plan on telling anyone what we are naming the baby because we don't want anyone to try to talk us out of it. H and I don't agree on all the names- he likes more "normal" names than I do. But here are the names I like:

    For a girl:

    Kalia (pronounced Kal-ee-uh)
    Kenzi or Kynzi
    Kami

    For a boy:

    Kolby or Colby
    Kyson
    Karter

I liked Camden (or Kamden), but our friends just named their baby that. We also liked Kooper (or Cooper) but a colleague may be naming his baby that.

For middle names for girls, I like Faith, Grace and Hope.

For middle names for boys, I'd like to use my dad's name or H's dad's name.

  • We have thrown around some names... middle name will be a family name.  We agree mostly on the girl names but H likes more trendy boy names than the ones I like, I prefer traditional, strong manly names.

Girl first names: Aubrie, Miriam, Alison, Gwyneth, Ruth, Brynn, Andie, Macy
Girl middle names: Lynn or Elizabeth

Boy first names: Samuel, Beckett, Taig, Foster, Archer, David, Trent, Bennett
Boy middle names: William or Christopher

It is a great name : )  (It's my name!)  I love having the -ey in mine, I almost NEVER meet someone whose name is spelled the same.
  • Ross Kristopher
    Alexandra or Alexander
Lyn as a middle name (both grandmothers and me have Lyn as middle name)

This is as far as we've decided because babies are a little ways in the future. We still have time to think.

  • I was supposed to be named Oliva after my great-grandmother, but my mom changed her mind when I was born (in fact they thought I was going to be a boy, so in the confusion she forgot, haha).  So I'm Amanda.  She has no idea where she got my middle name (Nicole) from, but I like it.

In both mine and DH's families it's traditional to carry down middle names.  So if we have a girl her middle name will be Nicole, and if we have a boy his middle name will be Matthew.  I have a few first names thought up:

    Girl
    Olivia
    Lydia
    Anna
    Lucy

    Boy
    Aaron
    Noah

DH only wants one baby and I flip-flop between wanting one and wanting two, so that's why our lists are so short.

    That's a cute name!
  • We would like to use names from our families. We've kind of talked about names but nothing serious yet.

    Boy
    Daniel Michael or Micheal Daniel
    William Mack

    Girl
    Eleanor Marie
    Lauren Renee

My grandmother's name is Vashti and I think it would be great if we could work that name in there somehow.

I like to tell people that that's where it's from, even though it really isn't, lol.  I was VERY excited when I visited the real Abbey Road, though
  • Ryan and I love to talk about this.  Actually, before we met I'd picked out a name for my first daughter: Penelope Elizabeth

Then I find out his mother's name? Elizabeth Penelope! So we have to use that. :) It's too crazy otherwise.

Also for a girl, we both love Genevieve.  We've not decided on a middle name, though I'm thinking if we use Penelope Elizabeth we should do Genevieve Lynn, because Lynn is my mother's middle name and that way each grandmother is a namesake.

All of our sons will have the middle name Nicholas. Apparently all boys in his family for like twenty-five generations or something have had the middle name Nicholas, including Ryan and his dad.  So that will be after his dad (and him of course).

So Ryan and I both really like Ian. So our first son will probably be Ian Nicholas. The cool thing about this is Ian is scottish for John, which is my dad's middle name, so it'd be after both grandfathers. (btw, GunzNRozes, Peter John is my dad's name!)

The other boy name we're considering is Carsten Nicholas. I'm not in love with it, but I like it.  Ryan loves it, and Carsten is German for Christian.

    So in summary:
    Girls:
    Penelope Elizabeth, Genevieve Lynn

    Boys:
    Ian Nicholas, Carsten Nicholas

(We want 4 kids, so who knows, maybe that's their names... we also want to adopt though, and if we adopt an older child who has already been named, who knows?)

  • I love Genevieve, too!  I've only known one person by that name, but she was super smart.  I was excited to discover just now that apparently, there is a St. Genevieve in the Orthodox Church.  I wonder if my husband will like that name!

Oh, btw, does anyone on this board have trouble with husbands picking names you really don't like?  My husband has a tendency to want to name our sons things like Achilles, Hercules, etc. haha.
  • Jealous that you have visited Abbey Road !! I saw Paul live in concert and up until my wedding day the birth of my son its the best night of my life !

I wanted to named a girl Eleanor buy my FI says no....but i LOVE it...

  • btw, thanks for telling me about St. Genevieve. I will have to look her up. My reservation about "Genevieve Lynn" is that neither name is Biblical, (neither is Carsten, but it means Christian, and Ian is John, so that works just fine).  I like there to be at least some Biblical link... but Christian link works too.

One of my dear friends is Eastern Orthodox. She's actually at seminary (St. Vladimir's in Yonkers) and is giong to be a hospital chaplain. I've gone with her to stay with nuns at an E.O. monastery too. Wonderful experience.

I'm Episcopalian, and my heart is interdenominational, but if I had to pick another denomination it might be E.O... which would drive Ryan batty because he likes churches with rock band praise teams and the like. :) I can worship at one fo htose just fine sometimes, but something about a solemn liturgy calms my loud and boisterous soul and brings me closer to God... his loud and boisterous soul likes to worship God loud and boisterous-ly as well. Tongue Out

  • Yup, St. Genevieve is the patron saint of Paris apparently.  She lived before the split of the Church (Catholic and Orthodox), so she's recognized by both.  Oh, that's cool you know of St. Vlad's!  It seems like all the priests here on the East Coast go there.  And that's awesome you've been to a monestary!  I've been wanting to go for a long time but never have...

  • My first born will be named Raine if its a boy or a girl. I was adopted and the name my birthmother gave me was Raine...I love it and I also really want want to honour her sacrifice in this way.

Other names I like are a lot of the biblical names, nathaniel, micah, malachai, Sarai - I also love latin names for girls: Elaina, Edite, Dayana, Yulisa. But FI likes more traditional names, so we will see. (He does like Raine though which makes me so happy!)

  • I love reading baby names.  :)

So far we've picked out Jake Ryan for a boy and Katie Beth for a girl.  But I kind of want to name the girl after my grandma but her name is Norma Lois so... Katie Lois?  I'm not for sure.  But we also love Clint's Mema very much which is Barbara Jane - so Katie Jane?  Still not sure, as you can tell.  :P
  • awh..i love this!!!
H and i have talked a little about baby names. H has decided that he wants to name our first son Seth... he was pretty sure about it. He was named after his Grandfather and wanted to carry on the name... so maybe Seth Martin. IDK... i like Seth... but not IN LOVE with it. hehe.
We both decided that we like unique names with strong meaning. My H is Martin Joseph.. which is "warrior" and "God will increase."
We probably wont start really looking into names until i am pregnant.

I like unique middle names too... and i LOVE the middle name Grace for a girl. :)

DH and I like to talk about baby names, but we're not TTC for a while yet. We have a much easier time with girl names than boys, but that's because there are already so many boys in DH's family that have names we would use otherwise.

    Our favorites currently -

    Girl:
    -Kathryn Elizabeth
-Ginnifer (DH's pick - I'm not so sure I like it, but we'd call her GInny)
    -Alexis

    Boy:
-Jacob Patton (we'll use Patton as a middle name if at all possible since it's a family name, even for a girl, but because of the whole Twilight craze, I'm iffy about using Jacob)
    -Jackson
  • DH and I have talked a little about baby names, though we aren't trying yet. I love the name Cecelia, it's my grandmother's name. For a boy I've mentioned Edward James (his dad's fn and my dad's fn) and Wayne Robert (my grandfather's name) I like family names because they're extra sentimental in a way. I do love a lot of names though, it's going to be really tough when they time comes to pick!

  • We have only talked about boy names, because we don't agree on ANY girl names.

    Cooper Ray (After my dad.)
Mason Dean (After FI, FFIL, FI's grandfather)

Dean will for sure be in there somewhere :)
