Registering for "Kitchen Makeover"

My fiance and I have lived in our home for over 2 years and desperately need a new kitchen.  Is there a way to work Home Depot Gift Card or somewhere like that into registering?  Or is there wording that can be put on the shower invite?  I don't want to be rude, but this is truely what we need.
Help!

Re: Registering for "Kitchen Makeover"

  • We registered at Sears for tools and items for home improvement (we just bought our first home) so you could try that if you wanted.  Home Depot and Lowes do not have registries anymore.  You could always do word of mouth (only if people ask) that you are looking for gift cards but I wouldn't put that on the actual shower invite.

  • One of my friends printed up cute little cards with the Home Depot logo on them with something along the lines of "gift cards are greatly appreciated" and put them into the shower invite. If you go to Staples you can get business cards on a sheet and they are very easy to print and pull apart. It worked so well she was actually a little upset because she only had a handful of gifts to open at the shower.... which was silly because it was what they wanted. And it made the silly gift bingo a little tough - lol.

  • DH and I were in a similar situation, so we created a universal registry at www.myregistry.com, which lets you add gifts from pretty much any store, even if the store itself doesn't offer a registry. We found it pretty easy to use, and several of our guests commented on how much they liked it as well. We added things like faucets, light fixtures, doorknobs, ceiling fans, paint supplies, sheet rock, a shower surround, and such. We did not add gift cards (even though the site allows you to), but we didn't need to. Between looking at our registry and through word of mouth, most people knew we were saving to remodel our home, and we received many of the items on our registry, as well as several Lowe's gift cards and cash gifts.
