Old Carolina BBQ :)

Hey Girls!

Anyone out there looking for an amazingly caterer consider Old Carolina. I had to cancel with my caterer 3 weeks before my wedding. Not only was Old Carolina able to match my budget their food is amazing!

We went in last week for our tasting and it was all soo good.

Now I just need to keep my fingers crossed for good weather this weekend because my wedding and reception are outside! Go Ohio weather :)

I am really considering going with them. Our reception is in a barn and I like the rustic feel of barbequed food. THe pricing also looks fantastic. Did they let you sample food?

Yes, they let you try the food- anything you want and they give you big enough portions to take home. We booked with them and are working with Rocco out of the Canton/Massillon office (which is closer to our venue). He is great to work with and even came up to the Fairlawn location because it was closer to our house. A girl from my book club used them for her wedding over the summer and was really happy with them- she also said there was A TON of food left over.  The food is awesome and the prices can't be beat!

Awesome! I went to the Cuyahoga Falls bridal show yesterday and met with them! Loved it! The backyard feel of the food will be perfect with our barn reception! Did you choose to do an upgrade to actual plates? Or did you stick with paper products?

We did not do an upgrade and the paper plates they provided worked perfect! I couldn't have been happier with them!

We are also just going with the paper products they provide- I was afraid they would be like 3 compartment styrofoam (yuck) plates but they sound like the upgraded "china-like" version we were going to buy from Costco (and  the plastic ware that looks like silver).  They have a few colors of plates to choose from (white, white w/ gold rim, clear and another color). My friend who used them over the summer bought her own stuff and they had no problem using it. IMO it's not worth the extra $ per person for the "real plate". BUT we are paying extra for family style/french service which I think is totally worth it. Also, my friend paid extra for them to bring their grill but said it wasn't worth the extra money. We are also getting our cocktail hour food trays from them and are doing a 2 meat and 3 side meal and sweet tea. I think the total cost works out to $17 a person- amazing!

What is family style? We are meeting with Rocco in November to try the food and decide what we would like to do. We are also getting our cocktail food from there. THat is an amazing price! We are having our reception at Brookside Farms so the food fits right into our rustic theme.  If you don't mind me asking, where is your wedding reception?

Also, are you having alcohol? We are looking for a good bartender.

We are also getting married at Brookside next Sept! :) Rocco has been there a lot already and is friendly with the owners. It was a nice plus to work with a caterer who is familiar with the building. I guess he said Brookside has 50 weddings booked for next year- wow!

Family style is when they bring big casserole dishes out to the table and people serve themselves (those dishes stay on the table). It's a nice compromise between buffet (which I didn't want because I HATE waiting for food at weddings) and plated dinners (where people don't get to choose what they want to eat and how much).

We are having alcohol and are probably going with wine and beer only. Originally wanted an open bar but now looking at the logistics of having all bottles and all the mixers and all the extra glassware and all the "stuff"- I don't know that it's in the cards. There's a place in Wooster that delivers beer/wine to your venue and then buys back what you don't use but I haven't checked yet to see if they would go out to Louisville or notNot sure what we are doing about a bartender yet! I'll probably end up asking John or Wayne to see if they have suggestions.  Let me know if you discover anything in your searches!

I am going to jump back in this convo :)

I got their apps as well and my price all inclusive was $17.60/head for 2 veggie trays, 2 cheese/cracker trays, and 2 fruit trays for cocktail hour. My meal was 2pc ribs, 100 boneless ckn, 100 bone in chkn, mashed potatoes (to die for), coleslaw/salad (100ea), baked beans and rolls. We planned on 200ppl and at the end had an enitre pan of ribs left, 3/4 pan of baked beans and cole slaw, and 1/2 pan of chicken. You will be so happy with them! Rocco was so accomodating during our food tasting!

Bartender - I used a friend of the family I can recommend if you are interested.

OH MY GOSH! This just keeps getting better! Haha. Rocco was so nice on the phone and I can't wait for the tasting! $17.60 is an awesome price for all of that! I can't decide what meats and such that I want. I know everyone loves their pulled pork. I'll make sure I post after the tasting! :)

All of their meat choices are so good. I don't even like ribs or pulled pork and I thought they were both really good. The BBQ sauce choices they have really make the meat delicious! You will love the tasting. It is so fun!!

When are you going down there? (sorry if you already said this earlier)

Well the tasting went great! We are sending in our deposit this week. I still have a while to decide, but I'm really torn over the china or plasticware. Other than that everything with the food is great!
