Vendor Gratuity?

One of my clients said that it's expected to give each of the vendors a tip on top of the price for their services. I have never heard this before. Obviously any services we receive at a salon we would tip on top of, but she said the DJ, Photographer and catering expect a tip too.

Anyone else know about this?

Yep, there are others who require a tip as well.  Check out the ettiquite board and read some articles on the subject.  I don't have the specifics in front of me right now.

Absolutely.  You tip anyone who is not the owner of the business or where gratuity has not been included in the contract.  However, if a vendor falls into one of thsoe categories and they really went above and beyond, you may still tip them.

The general response I've gotten about tipping is:

If the vendor owns their own business, no tip is necessary.  For example, my DJ owns his business, as do my photographers - so I will not be tipping them unless they far exceed my expectations.

If the vendor includes gratuity in their bill, no tip is necessary.  For example, my caterer charges an 18% gratuity to the bill automatically so I will not be tipping.

I do plan on tipping the bakery for delivery of the cake.
