Wedding Menu

We had our tasting on Sunday and decided on a dual plate of barramundi fish and spinach and asiago cheese stuffed chicken - both of which we thought were delicious. However the surgeon I work for and my dad both said something about not having a steak in the menu. At the tasting we tried the sirloin, tenderloin, and filet and we just weren't a fan. So I guess my question is - Is it bad not to have steak on the menu? Will guests be disappointed?

Re: Wedding Menu

  • I say kudos to being able to afford steak - and that it sounds like your background and the guests that would be attending this wedding, have higher dinner expectations.  I understand that you were not a fan of the steak - but was it good enough for someone like your Dad?  If so, the I would have three choices which are all standard - beef, chicken, or fish.  Satisfies everyone.  (I assumed this was a sit-down dinner too).

    Good luck!
  • NO! I hate steak at weddings! It's never cooked the way you want it! We're having chicken, roast beef, and ham.  So I say, it's no problem.

  • Ugh, that's tough! I think chicken and beef are the two most universally served (and liked) entrees. The fish sounds like it would be amazing!  However, I feel like many people are pickier about fish than they are about steak.

I guess it comes down to the beef/chicken combo adequately pleasing most people and the fish/chicken combo wowing some people and disappointing others.
  • We wanted steak on our menu too, however, it rarely turns out well at a reception because they sit in the chafing dishes and cook longer than they are supposed too. So we ended up with a braised beef rib, which was to die for. And it won't matter if it sits a bit longer and cooks.

I would say eat what you guys like. Period. If you don't like the steak, chances are guests won't either.

  • hey girl!

everyone, including my parents, RAVED about their steaks! I think britt and i got the ones that were on the longest and served first bc they were totally overcooked.

We did steak, fish and chicken or pork ( I can't remember which one).

Also, the food there is really really good. I had numerous people tell me that it was the 'best wedding food' they had. Don't sweat the selection, bc everything will be great regardless.

  • I think fish and chicken are completely fine!  We are also doing a duet plate (steak/salmon, but that's because they were our favorite at the tasting).

People will be happy with whatever you serve! Go with whatever choice you are confident will taste good.
  • This might make me a debbie downer, but I think unless the food is phenomenal or really bad, people don't really remember it anyway. And, I think it's really hard for mass produced food to be phenomenal. Pick what you think was good based on the tasting and move forward.

  • Thank you everyone for the advice. Flower - I agree, I couldn't tell you what I've eaten at wedding before and I have never had a meal at a wedding I raved about. Heb - Exactly what we were thinking, we had steak at 2 weddings in October and neither was good. I think we are going to stick with what we liked. I think we have done a lot of planning little special things for our guests and overall I think everything will be nice, including the menu, which we loved, and I'm gonna try not to fret it. Thanks, thanks thanks!
