Caterers....suggestions needed for a wedding on a budget!

I am trying to find a caterer that will do either plated or family style dinners with a smaller budget.  I would like to spend less than $5000 total (including service charges and taxes).  I am getting married in Milwaukee next summer and the venue I've found will let me bring in any caterer that is licensed and insured.  Please give me suggestions and reviews!!  Thanks for the help!

Funny I was going to post this same question this morning... I also am looking for a caterer but for more like 250-300 guests.

We're using All Occasions Catering in Big Bend. It's also known as Bubb's BBQ. Their food is DELICIOUS. We did a tasting there a few months ago, and although they're a small operation, they have plenty of delicious choices, and they are super cheap! The owner is also super nice and really flexible with prices. They do more buffets, but there are a lot of options.

Check Zilli's Catering in Waukesha; they did my wedding last July. I remember the planner telling me they cater to all types of event small or large. They mentioned graduation parties and small house parties.
I had a sit down dinner for 200 guests and the price was reasonable. The food was delicious and I really liked the manager that night. It wouldn't hurt to see what they have to offer.

    Good Luck!

We use the Elm Grove Woman's Club - fits up to 200.  They have a pre-approved list of over 15 vendors and you can bring in a non-approved one if they meet insurance/licensing requirements.

We are having our ceremony and reception at Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee.  Thanks for all the suggestions so far!! Looks like I'm going to have a busy summer trying out all these places!

Kerkma:  I'm jealous...I soooo wanted my reception at The Best Place but we have too many people.  That venue is unique, beautiful and I have some personal family history connected to it.  I'm sad we can't fit there but I hope you have a wonderful wedding there! Smile
